| The WBA has advised BoxingScene.com that a purse bid has been ordered for the junior welterweight clash between full champion Amir Khan and interim champion Marcos Maidana. The bidding will take place on Tuesday, September 21st at 10:00 a.m in the WBA’s Panama Headquarters. The purse bid will be directed by WBA Executive Vice President Gilberto Jesus Mendoza and Ratings Chairman Jose Oliver Gomez. Maidana requested the purse bid after claiming that Khan was trying to withdraw from their planned fight on December 11. http://www.boxingscene.com/?m=show&id=30839I am a little confused here, both guys are with Golden Boy so who's the rival bidder ? or will it be between Khan and Maidana's management teams ? |

| Maidana's crying got him more greenbacks.
As far as the bidding. I think Maidana is not exclusively with Golden Boy. I remember after Maidana beat Ortiz, Arum coming out and making fun of GBP for risking their prospect in the ring with another promotions fighter. But what do i know?

| Khan's 'take it or leave it' negotiation backfired. | |

| I'm happy to hear this. Maidana deserves more than a 25% split for this fight. | |

| Universum Co Promotes Maidana. Are they promoting him for this fight and GBP promoting Khan? | |

| I think if it goes to a purse bid the split will automatically be 60-40.
Smart move by Maidana. | |

| Nbrooks, the split is 55-45 as per WBA rules.
Ali, any promoter can make a bid. Desn't have to be just GBP.

| Maidana made a good strategical decision. A purse bid gives him a set %, and it forces the fight unless Khan wants to be stripped of his precious trinket.
Early prediction- Khan 6th round TKO. Maidana can be hit rather easily (doesn't have the greatest chin), and Khan will tag him with jabs and right hands until Maidana can't take anymore.

How does Maidana deserve more than 25% ? He's got no fanbase or major networks backing him, he doesn't sell pay per views in his own country and hasn't gotten great ratings on HBO like Khan has. Marcos Maidana is a greedy bastard. He had the opportunity to face Timothy Bradley, and guess what he demanded more money. |

Not at all, Khan could easily throw away that trinket and face Victor Ortiz instead, HBO will still broadcast his fights. Maidana is a greedy bastard. |

| Someone's mad at Maidana.
No way Khan throws away the trinket now. He would get crucified and be called a ducker.

| Yeah GBP is a co-promoter of Maidana and Khan is a full GBP fighter. It will most likly only be GBP biding. this is good because Maidana is going to end up getting a bigger piece of the pie. but Maidana previous offer of taking 25% of the shar is complete BS. The fight is big because of Maidana being such a dangerous fighter!
Khan is in a lose, lose situation. His team either pays Maidana or kiss his title good bye and be marked as a ducker like Haye.
i also agree with gomez, Ortiz is a much more dangerous fighter than Maidana. Maidana hasnt looked very good after that fight. Even though Ortiz is now timid, hes improved his craft.

| It would be mad ironic if Khan vacated. I remember him going on saying "I have a title belt, blah blah." Shit, they pulled strings so he could defend that trinket against Malignaggi instead of Maidana. | |

| I wouldn't argue with Khan vacating since Maidana has been reluctant to agree to the offer he's got on the table.
First Bradley now Khan, next year Maidana will complain about an offer from Alexander's team. |

| Khan vacating the title= Khan is ducking Maidana.
Maidana played his hand and won.

Can you show me evidence that Maidana is being ripped off ? I don't recall Malignaggi or Barrera complaining about being underpaid to face Khan. Maidana has got a history of complaining about money, and he also turned down a rematch with Victor Ortiz. Right now Maidana has an offer on the table and is refusing to sign, explain to me how Khan's ducking when Marcos won't even sign to face him ? He's a limited caveman who's trying to cash in, it's a pity peoples hate for Khan is allowing them to overlook his ridiculous actions right now. He's got no fanbase or major network backing him, yet he's got the cheek to ask for more dough. |

| Ali,
Maidana may have been offered more than he ends up with. OR Maidana may have been offered alot less than his % through the purse bid.
There have been many such situations like this in the past. Sometimes the fighter ends up having made a good deal by asking for the bid. Sometimes the bid comes in and he ends up getting less.
Wait until the facts come out to go after Maidana. If the facts turn out to be in Khan's favor, I'll be the first to help you rip on the Argentine.

- Schaefer added that Khan does not want to go to a purse bid, which could give his former promoter, England's Frank Warren, an opportunity to win the rights to the fight.

| kahn and company got outsmarted...if they offered 35 perecent of everything maybe this would of never happened...if he vacats it points to two things1. ducking the fighter or 2. excessive greed.ill not fight and choze not to make any money..great idea..they got outsmarted..take the purse bid then crush maidiana and learn from this experience..im rooting for kahn in this fight but if he continues his actions like this or his stupid twitter stuff then ill root against him in this and his other fights . | |

| Because the purse bid is open to any registered promoter
If Warren wants it, can offer enough and get the rights to it
