| Negotiations continue to name an opponent for Amir Khan's next fight on July 31 in the UK. The Reeklama paper reports that Khan made a request to Golden Boy Promotions to make him a fight with Marcos Maidana. The request was turned down because Maidana's handlers say the fighter is still dealing with a back injury and won't recover in time to have a sufficient training period for the fight. The same back injury caused Maidana to withdraw from two scheduled meetings with WBO junior welterweight champion Timothy Bradley. "I wanted to fight him [Maidana]. They say he's injured," Khan was quoted as saying. The opponents being considered are Michael Katsidis and Joel Casamayor. The management of Katsidis are not confident of their chances to secure a sufficient offer to fight Khan. Casamayor may become the lucky choice. http://www.boxingscene.com/?m=show&id=28214 |

| Wow, I want to know what exactly happened to Maidana's back because that's a long time to be out. Gotta give Amir credit though for wanting to fight the best! | |

Khan should fight Ortiz Doesn't seem to be in the works. I hope the Katsidis fight happens, financially it makes the most sense right now. |

| Katsidis is a solid match up
Makes buying the PPV a bit easier since you get that and JMM-Diaz II and maybe one more decent bout

| Plus Katsidis has enough power to make it interesting. |

| Too bad. I do think Maidana's injury is legit. July is very near if you are not %100 percent able to train.
Hopefully KkHAaaaannn!!! fights Katsidis and then sets a date with Bradley later this year.

| Ali, do you think Khan could box and stay away from Maidana's power for 12 rounds? | |

That fight would be interesting, but Bradley and Khan both claim they are willing and able to fight each other so let's get it on. Let Maidana fight Alexander and the winners can face off.

Honestly Freddie I would like to think so, but Maidana proved with his last fight he's more than just a brawler. He actually applied a little technique to break down his opponent. Now Khan's chin is definitely weak there is no debate about that, however he has been hurt to the body before, so if Maidana works Khan's body instead of head hunting he could certainly drop Amir's hands and clip that fragile chin. Khan will need to keep that jab in Madiana's face all night and rely on his superior speed and skills. I lean towards Khan, but I am not as confident as I use to be. |

| If Khan works that beautiful jab that Roach has instilled to protect his chin, then I think Khan dominates Maidana.
Anyone see the similarity in the adjustments Roach has done with Khan to what Steward did with Wladimir ?

http://www.boxingscene.com/?m=show&id=28214 Maidana must really be hurt because he does not seem like the type of guy to duck people. |

I think that Maidana is hurt for sure this isn't bullshit. He's passing on big paydays with the best in the division. I think Khan would beat clearly beat Maidana.

I lean towards Khan, but I am not as confident as I use to be. Seeing the way that Khan was able to outbox Paulie and I know a lot of people want to say "Well it's Paulie, he's got no power", but Khan outboxed the shit out of him and Paulie is a damn good boxer. I would say it is 65-35 for Khan. I think he sticks and moves all night and wins, but if he does get caught, it might be over!

| This is a great move by Khan. Challenge a guy whose been hurt. Either he gets the fight against a probably not 100% Maidana or this happens and he can talk about how he tried to make the fight.
I think he'd beat Maidana 9 out of 10 times, but this was a brilliant move on his part. Would hate to see Khan v. Katsidis because I like Katsidis and the fight would damage his development at 140 or a shot at a LW title.
Who does Maidana get once he's healthy? Ortiz II? Urango? Peterson? Mabuza? One of the Europeans? |
