According to sources in Mexico, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. is reportedly not happy with the idea of having to spend several weeks in the Philippines to prepare for a fight with WBA junior middleweight champion Miguel Cotto. Chavez's new trainer, Freddie Roach, will be in the Philippines for several weeks to train Manny Pacquiao for his fight with Antonio Margarito on November 13. Cotto vs. Chavez is tentative for December 4.
Several of Roach's fighters, including 140-pound champion Amir Khan and junior middleweight Vanes Martirosyan, have fights scheduled around the same period. Roach wanted to train several of them, including Chavez, at the same time in the Philippines before returning to the Wild Card Gym in Los Angeles. Roach wanted to use Chavez as the chief sparring partner for Pacquiao. He says Chavez has the ability and the physical form to duplicate the style of Margarito.
There is a three week gap between Pacquiao-Margarito and Cotto-Chavez. It's hard to see Chavez going forward with such a tough fight without a full training camp with Roach and conditioning expert Alex Ariza. Chavez needs extra attention for this camp because he's had trouble making 154-pounds. Roach says "it'll be a little tough, but he'll make it."
Roach and Ariza will have to sort out the situation to ensure all of their schedules cooperate, or maybe Chavez changes his mind and gets with the program.

| Cotto got this fool shaking in his chancletas. Chavez Jr should just admit he's not ready for the beast named Cotto.
Reports are that Chavez's shaking showed up on the Richter Scale. Stay tuned for further details.

| I want to see Cotto fight again this year as well. I'd rather see him take on the overhyped Berto.
As for Chavez Jr, his promoter and managers are idiots. He has a win over John Duddy. He got rather lucky to get the win in his first fight against Matt Vanda
A fight against Cotto screams major cash out by his camp.
Before facing Cotto (belt holder at 140, beltholder at 147, beltholder at 154, who has faced a tougher schedule over the last 5 years than all but 3-4 guys in the sport), you would think that he would like to beat a top 10 guy first.

| this is one reason dawsons folks should not go with freddie..hes strected to the absolute limit...chavez dedication now comes into question..6 weeks in the phillapines for a chance to make a few million..interesting but thats the fighters of today...foreman and ali went to noo mans land to fight and had to stay a extra 3 weeks longer due to foremans cut in training...compared to that the phillipines looks like a resort area.. | |

Especially when your stable mate is the wealthiest man in the country not to mention a senator. Give me a fucking break. Spoiled brat. Let me train on a tropical resort with the guy regarded as the number one trainer at the moment. A few million and a vacation.

| duddy was ranked by ring a couple of years ago. Then he lost a fight (to a less than stellar fighter) and it showed that he didn't deserve to be ranked. He is a tough guy but there are at least 20 guys at both 154 or 160 that can beat him. | |

| Chavez will eventually lose to a Manfredo, or Mora, and that will be the end of the hype train. | |

| Good !!! I have no interest in this fight at all.
Perhaps they can revisit Cotto vs Berto now or Cotto vs Angulo. |

| I just want someone to whoop Chavez's ass.
Mexico vs PR. Top Rank fight. It makes sense.
Like Haye-Harrison, its going to make money.

| And to be honest I actually agree with Chavez's reason, he's had limited amateur experience and struggles to make 154lb, three weeks with Freddie just isn't enough to prepare for the type of calibre Miguel Cotto is. Plus he'll also have to share Freddie with Khan since the Maidana fight is going to be happening in December. |

| Chavez Jr. needs to face a lower top 10 or just outside the top 10 guy. No need to face Cotto. | |

| Im probably the only person on this forum that gives Chavez a chance. Chavez can box well and throws good comonations. Cotto a smaller guy, who has trouble against bigger guys. Chavezes size will be an advantage. Chavez will be able to take Cottod punches, Chavez has showed a solid chin so far. Chavez may not have speed or Power, but I see him outworking the smaller Cotto. | |
