Tim Boetsch (12-3 MMA, 3-2 UFC) and Phil Davis (7-0 MMA, 3-0 UFC) are bound for Motor City.
Sources close to event today informed MMAjunkie.com (
www.mmajunkie.com) that the light heavyweights have agreed to fight at UFC 123, and paperwork is on its way.
UFC 123 is expected to take place Nov. 20 at The Palace of Auburn Hills in suburban Detroit. A light heavyweight match-up between former champions Quinton "Rampage" Jackson and Lyoto Machida headlines the pay-per-view event.
It's unknown whether Boetsch vs. Davis will grace the televised portion of UFC 123's card.
Davis is less than a month removed from a short-notice fight at UFC 117 when he stepped in for injured newcomer Stanislav Nedkov and bested Rodney Wallace on points.
It was the decorated collegiate wrestler's third-consecutive UFC win after impressive victories over Alexander Gustafsson and Brian Stann at UFC 112 and UFC 109, respectively.
The undefeated Davis' speed and mat skills have made him a prospect to watch among observers in the know.
It's all but certain, though, that Boetsch, nicknamed "The Barbarian," will try to outmuscle the up-and-comer.
Boetsch recently returned to the octagon at UFC 117 following a three-fight win streak on the regional circuit and bullied newcomer Todd Brown for a unanimous decision.
One of the more physically aggressive fighters in the 205-pound class, Boetsch delivered mixed results in his first UFC run with wins over David Heath and Michael Patt and losses to Matt Hamill and Jason Brilz.
It was Boetsch's win over Heath, though, that perked up everyone's ears when he delivered one of the promotion's best highlights of the year by tossing Heath to the mat and beating him senseless at UFC 81.
A win over Davis would undoubtedly put him back on the hot list.
