BoxingScene.com spoke to welterweight contender Jesus Soto Karass about a potential bout with Mike Jones. BoxingScene reported earlier in the week that Jones vs. Soto Karass may land on the Manny Pacquiao-Antonio Margarito undercard on November 13 at Cowboys Stadium in Texas.
"My manager (Sergio Diaz) is negotiating the fight. It is not a done deal but it is a fight I definitely want," Karass told BoxingScene.
Karass last fought in May when his bout versus Gabriel Martinez was ruled a no contest. Martinez couldn't continue after an accidental clash of heads in the second round. Prior to that fight Karass appeared on the Pacquiao-Cotto undercard in November 2009 where he lost a foul plagued technical decision to Alfonso Gomez.
Karass would like to avenge his loss to Gomez but is focused on Jones.
"I would love to fight Gomez again but Jones is a great fighter and I need to concentrate on beating him."
Soto informed us that the bout with Jones will be a WBC eliminator and the winner will be first in line to get a shot at Andre Berto (assuming Berto fights his current mandatory challenger Selcuk Aydin).
"I was told this fight will be a WBC eliminator. Hopefully my manager works out the details and we can fight in November."
The Pacquiao-Margarito undercard appears to be shaping up with this fight and also possible appearances by former middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik and super bantamweight Guillermo Rigondeaux.
