| BoxingScene.com spoke to junior middleweight and welterweight contender Kermit Cintron about his plans for a return to the ring. "I'm taking the rest of year off. I had talked to my manager Josh (Dubin) about it. Sergiy (Dzinzurzik) is definitely on my radar." Cintron isn't enamored with the current state of boxing and particularly the direction that his weight classes are going. "No one wants to fight anyone. I'm coming out with a bang in 2011. They are going to have to fight me. That punk Berto hasn't fought anyone yet at 147. He should fight me." Cintron said he has been spending time with his family but he has been reading up on boxing to keep up with current events. The Puerto Rican told BoxingScene, "I'm just chilling with my kids and wife. I've been reading up on what's going on in boxing. I will be back and back with a vengeance next year." http://www.boxingscene.com/?m=show&id=30131 |

| I try my best to respect Cintron and give him chances, but when he makes stupid decisions like this it's difficult to defend him.
It's August and he wants to take the rest of the year off !!! Boxers today are lazy and greedy. |

The sport is going to collapse in America if drastic changes are not made ASAP, Showtime seem to be the only people interested in actually making boxing exciting right now. |

I really do think problems are as follows in order of importance: 1. A severely idiotic fan base who thinks being unbeaten matters, straps count and that has no desire to do the work to compare this era to others to identify problems; 2. Promoters who are smart enough to exploit #1 3. Fighters who just don't want to be great. In the USA we are getting the sport we deserve. We make fun of Germany, but who is doing it better at the moment?

| Problems with boxing
1. Too many divisions 2. Too many belts 3. Incompetent judges and ref's 4. Incompetent exec's running HBO 5. HBO's favoritism with Golden Boy 6. Sanctioning bodies 7. Ancient promoters who need to retire 8. Good fighters being avoided 9. Horrible amateur system 10. Ignorant fickle fans
And I could list many more. |

And I could list many more. But #10 is really what makes the rest possible. If we had a disciplined fan base the rest couldn't happen. We've had 3,5,7,8 for decades and decades.

| The problem is young fans today don't even bother to educate themselves on the history of the sport, so they think what they see is normal and the way it should be. |

Yuperooni. I think what happens is they keep hearing how other sports are the best we've ever seen them (largely true I think) and therefore assume it must be true for ALL sports without any actual work or thought. Then they rely on the "Old guys romanticizing the past" to make themeselves feel better about not actually thinking. Good thing I never did that when I was a youngun

| Don't forget Haye's vacation after his gruelling accomplishments......
I love how Cintron talks smack about all the other fighters not wanting to fight as he announces he's taking the year off...
At the end of the day it(boxing) is supposed to be entertainment, a liesure activity to follow. The sport is supposed to make it easy to be a fan. The sport is killing itself.

| Floyd can afford to take time off, he's a huge draw and a first ballet HOF'er.
Nobody gives a shit about Kermit the Fraud.

Agreed. You say the punk hasn't fought anyone at 147, well then go do something about it! Fight him yourself. What an interesting concept.

| No one wants to fight anyone. So your solution is to take the rest of the year off.
Okay, we know 2 things about Cintron: 1-He was named after a frog 2-He isn't the intellectual equal of that frog

| I always thought Cintron should try his hand at MMA. With his wrestling background and punching power; he'd do some real damage to some of those UFC guys. It's not like you can take a pay cut if you're not getting paid as it is; and, hey - it's hard to jump out of an octagon | |

| He has the skill set to dominate in MMA, but he strikes me as the guy who gives up his back/limbs so he can tap. | |

I think he would scare the hell out of everyone in MMA because of that skill set. He might punch harder than everyone in his division. |

Short of a full out boycott, what can we expect fight fans to do? 100% of boxing's promblems begin and end with the sanctioning bodies and promoters. The sport is so crooked and broken.

| As for Floyd and his vacation: he is making a serious mistake. The legs aren't what they once were.
They looked a little off in the fight against Marquez. As I believe Marble stated, Floyd isn't 100% what he was before "from the waist down". You could have chalked that up to rust. You could have stuck your head in the sand and ignored it.
The Mosley fight, Floyd's legs appeared worse. He was flat footed, and his legs were stiff alot of the time. Not close to the spring they used to have.
Did Floyd dominate both fights? Hell yes. Is time going to make him more and more vulnerable? Hell yes. He needs to go out and fight, make money, and get out before his body betrays him.

Who knows? At least we know sometimes because of unification which never happens in MMA. Like I said every sport has its problems. |
