PostSubject: IS DAVID HAYE PLAYING THE LONG GAME?   IS DAVID HAYE PLAYING THE LONG GAME? EmptySun Aug 15, 2010 9:04 pm

here is what I mean. Haye is 29, hardly excessively old for a heavyweight. The Klitschkos, Tony Thompson, Nikolay Valuev are all 35 or older. Giants every one who will dissappear or decline in quality over the next 2-3 years.

Then there are the fat guys. Arreola, Odlanier Solis and Sam Peter. All big, powerful, threatening and extremely undisciplined. In every case I think they too will decline in quality over the next 2-3 years due to self-destructive lifestyles.

Then we get to Tomasz Adamek. More or less Haye's size and four years older. One must believe he is likely at his very best right about now I'd think.

Then we get to Haye's chronological peers who seem reasonably disciplined. Ruslan Chagaev, Alexander Povetkin, Eddie Chambers and Alexander Dimitrenko.

So is David Haye thinking the following?

1. Lennox Lewis really didn't become THE MAN until what? When he was 32-33? The he had an enormously profitable 6-7 year run where he made HUGE money.
2. I am only 29, so I have a couple of years to work with here.
3. I want to be financially secure for the rest of my life. But whether I do that when I'm 30 or 35 it doesn't really matter. What matters is I get there.
4. The Klitschkos will only get less threatening over time as will all the other giants except Dimitrenko.
5. Adamek will likely get a little less threatening over time as well.
6. The big powerful fat guys will also get worse over the next 2-3 years.
7. The next generation, except Dimitranko, are all my size more or less and don't have any obvious advantages over me.

SO WHAT IS THE RUSH?

I have a claim on the crown, I can fight relatively unthreatening guys for OK money for now and make my big money later. In the words of the Rolling Stones Time is on my side.

Now do I think this is a warrior mentality? Nope. This is a straight calculation focused on money. But isn't that who David Haye seems to be? And if he is, doesn't this approach make sense?

I've said a similar thing before. Haye can make great money facing mandatories that aren't a challenge. He can avoid the Klits as long as possible and the longer he waits the better his chances are versus either brother (particularly Vitali).

It's fairly obvious he's doing that and it's not a bad idea, but he needs to shut up. At least Teddy and Povetkin had the class to say they're not ready and need to work on things when they were up. Adamek appears to be actively working his way to a fight with the Klits. Chambers got dusted, but he stepped up when his time came.

Haye hasn't stepped up and he hasn't conceded that he needs more time. He's just continued to talk. I can't wait until he's finally ready to go and the Klits refuse to fight him. Or completely low ball him.

As much as I want JuanMa to fight Caballero, I don't mind the way he's gone about his career. That's how protected fighters should conduct themselves. Answer questions confidently, but don't go out of your way to call guys out you have no intention of fighting. Work your way towards mega fights. The two Brits: Khan and Haye can already make mega fights. Khan will at least take a respectable fight, but Haye has no other options. If he doesn't take the fight soon or retire he'll look bad regardless of what he does with his career.

I really have no clue what David's plans are just now, for all we know he could just be busy with family but I'd rather he just came out and said that instead of making up bs excuses about slave contracts.

I suspect his natural charisma will get him forgiven pretty quick if he starts doing the things we want.

I agree with both of the preceding comments. I know I can easily be disregarded as a hater, but I really feel that Haye is a pathological liar and extremely overrated. Marble's thesis may be partially correct- the problem with that line of thinking is I just don't think Haye is good enough to beat many of his contemporaries that Marble listed.

I really feel that Chagaev (if he is not in decline), Povetkin, and possibly even Chambers would defeat Haye. I believe some of Haye's short comings became obvious to 12 and his trainer during the Ruiz fight(I saw them in the Barrett fight) and they are in the gym trying to correct some of the critical technical flaws that Haye has.

Haye is very unsound in Balance, and defence (specifically head movement).

To 12's credit, I did see vast improvement in punching technique between the Barrett and Ruiz fights.

He's a friendly and engaging fellow. Is Patrick Stewart a Scot? He doesn't sound like one (I can actually understand him)

Very possible thats what he is doing. Plus he is doing all this shit talking which makes people hate him, which is going to make people watch him. He said once before love him or hate him he doesn't care because your buying a ticket either way. I think Haye is a lot smarter than people give him credit for.
