As BoxingScene.com reported several days ago, former welterweight champion Carlos Baldomir (45-12-6, 14KOs) is the likely opponent to face welterweight/junior middleweight prospect Saul Alvarez (33-0-1, 25KOs) on September 18 at Staples Center in Los Angeles, California. The fight will be part of the pay-per-view undercard to Shane Mosley vs. Sergio Mora.
According to Baldomir, he is ready to take the fight against Alvarez on September 18. Baldomir was already training at the Arano Box Gym for a fight that is scheduled for September 24 in Argentina, but told local promoters that he would like to take the fight with Alvarez instead. Alvarez has the WBC's silver title at 154-pounds, and that may have been the key to persuading Baldomir.
If Baldomir beats Alvarez and wins that silver title, he would close to a shot at the full WBC title, which is now vacant and rumored to be on the line when Manny Pacquiao faces Antonio Margarito on November 13.
