| No question, Bobby Lashley is a tough guy. Strong, has NAIA wrestling credentials and is tied up with American Top Team. He scrapes the upper end of the 265-pound heavyweight limit. A record of 5-0. Healthy ego. That last part is becoming a problem. Lashley is quite possibly the most rudderless fighter in the sport. He doesn't want to fight nobodies, as he told HDNet's "Inside MMA" on Friday, but jumping into a fight with Fedor Emelianenko (his preference) would be insulting even by Strikeforce's meager standards. Lashley is a prospect, but you don't get fights based on potential. The promotion has a surplus of midtier heavyweights who would help establish his place. Lashley wants a shortcut, and he's in desperate need of an adviser. What can he do? He could fight an Andrei Arlovski, Antonio Silva or Brett Rogers. He could see whether his size would be enough to overcome the more substantial wrestling ability of Daniel Cormier. He could grasp the idea that he hasn't fought since the beginning of the year and that fans perceive his overblown appetite for big fights to be undeserved. He could acknowledge that he's still a rookie in the sport and that his fights should be determined by the promoter. Lashley could argue that Brock Lesnar, another legitimate grappler, got his title bid in only three fights. But at least he beat a veteran in Heath Herring and very nearly finished Frank Mir before making a rookie's mistake. The cold reality is that Lesnar is a massive draw and can expedite his career; Lashley has yet to prove he can even deliver ratings above the norm. If pro wrestling is more about talking than ring time, it's no wonder he was such a star. http://espn.go.com/extra/mma/blog/_/name/mma

| eh, 1)I don't see an actual quote there, 2)Belcher called out Spider. Fighters will always dream big. 3)Lashely should be fighting a higher level of fighter then a fat Wes Sims on weeks notice. Hopefully we see some better fights for Lashley in the near future.
As of now, Im not a big Lashley believer.

| I still wonder if his name was not Bobby Lashley if people would be expecting him to be fighting better competition than he has. He has fought experienced competiton. It's a lot more than most guys fight early in their career especially when they are to their own admission under developed. When people got upset that he was matched up with Ron Sparks. A fighter with an identical record with wins of the same percieved quality as Lashley's, though Lashley's wins were much better i decided that people were being a little hard on the guy. People want to have their cake and eat it too with Lashley. They want to act like he not beat anybody of note but at the same time acting like what he's done so far is too good for what Ron Sparks has done. I see people bash him when he pulls out of a fight because of injuries. It's not like it's him trying to get out of fights. Bobby Lashley has always been injury prone. As a collegiate wrestler he had nagging injuries, injuries put an end to his quest to be in the olympics, it hampered him in his pro wrestling days and it's impeding his progress in MMA.
I don't think Lashley will ever be a champ or anything like that...but i respect the path he has taken. Just because he was an established name before MMA and that puts the spotlight on him a bit quicker does not mean he should jump right into deep waters. His competition has got a little stronger each fight, he has looked better each fight...sounds like the right path but because he's Bobby Lashley we get to watch him take the route most MMA fighters take on local show circuit before getting on the big shows.

| But lashely is older, and (according to this "article") is looking for huge figthts, I think we'd all agree, Lashley included, the time of fighting low level guys has come to an end. If indeed sparks is his next opponent, he better win convincingly, and then look towards a legit contendor matchup.
As far as injuries go, it doesn't matter the sport, a guy who is always injured will lose fans because of it.

1. Brock Lesnar 2. Shane Carwin 3. Cain Velasquez Had Lashley signed with the UFC he'd probably already have fought Lesnar.

| Lashley isn't delusional. He's just being careful with how his career is being managed. The fuck are you talkin about? | |

| I think after Jason Guida, we know that Lashley is not Brock. Arlovski is the only upper echelon fight he deserves.

| Lashley could be put in with any of Strikeforce's top heavies legitimately, though people would create arbitrary distinctions between Lashley and the guys the UFC has in an effort to criticize everything Strikeforce does. God I wouldn't want to promote fights outside the UFC. Lose lose no matter wha you do. | |

| You're criticizing an up and coming fighter for wanting to fight the best guys possible according to some interview statement? You do realize you've seen 10023043 boxers and MMA fighters not named Bobby Lashley do this with your own eyes and ears before right?
Bird you must be getting high again.

| hhahaha dont worry Im not wolf, and dont worry I actually defend StrikeForce all the time
I just think Bobby Lashley thinking he is ready for Fedor is a delusional statement especially coming off a "great" win over fatty Simms and a good while layoff, he is more or less jsut talking out of his ass IMO
however it wouldnt be abad idea, let Fedor pound a WWF personality and Lashley saves face saying he was rushed into a fight with the best heavyweight of the last decade

| Calling out the champ, even when it's totally undeserved, is standard procedure. Shit Brock got the title shot even when it was totally undeserved. | |
