Chavez Jr vs Ricardo Mayorga/ Marco Antonio Barrera vs Daivd Diaz ?

According to the Guillermo Brito, the operations director of Zanfer Promotions, Marco Antonio Barrera might be taking another tuneup fight prior to meeting WBC lightweight champion Humberto Soto. Brito says one fight being discussed right now would see Barrera fight David Diaz for a WBC International lightweight title on a date in September in Nuevo Vallarta, Tepic. Though, there is still the possibility Soto-Barrera goes ahead as planned without a tuneup involved.

Brito also said they are discussing several possibilities for the next fight of Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. The "son of a legend" is scheduled to return on September 25 in Mexico. One name Brito mentioned was former two division champion Ricardo Mayorga. Barrera's tuneup may take place on the same card in the co-feature.

Both Barrera and Chavez are co-promoted by Zanfer and Top Rank Promotions.

I saw this story earlier. Mayorga might just beat Chavez Jr. Same for Diaz against Barerra.

Mayorga isnt the best fighter in the world by no means but he could really pose problems for JCC jr. He hits hard and has a good chin which in the sport of Boxing u can get by with.

I like both these fights. Plus if Diaz beats Barrera, Soto might have to fight Peterson (or Rios).

Id love to see it just to hear El Matador rip Chumpez Jr during the press conferences!

I think after Barrera's camp thinks about it, they will pass up a tune up fight, if it is going to be against a guy like Diaz. they'll pick an easier out or just go straight to the fight with Soto.

No way is Barerra getting in the ring with David Diaz, when he has a shot against Soto (to fulfill his quest for the Mexican Holy Grail!!!!!!). it would be one thing not to grab that holy grail. It would be another to lose a tune up fight and never get the shot at it.

I look at the picture above and you can see that Gatti and Ward were in great physical condition.


If you look at a picture of Wlad, Vitali, Haye, Adamek, Povetkin, all are in pretty good to great condition.

Then you look at Arreola and the Mexican Jabba the Hut doesn't understand that being fat really isn't conducive to being good.

Barerra should just skip the tune up. Simple problem-if he has another tune up on the same level as the previous opponent, it won't help him much. If he steps up to a Diaz level opponent, he may lose. If I'm Barerra, I say screw it. Bring me Soto, and I'll bring home the Mexican Holy Grail!!!!

Yeah, considering Wlad is 6 ft 6, high 230s, Arreola who appears to be about my height, 6 ft 2 1/2, should weigh in the 220-225 range, in order to be in decent shape. He says he is a big guy. Yeah, a fat athlete.

I'd bet my life that Arreola comes into camp fat as hell. 240-250 and fat is probably a major improvement over the 270 he probably walks around at in between fights. Stuffing his face with food and beer.

It would be priceless to see Mayorga involved in another press conference, he would do his little back hand slap and accidentally slap Freddie Roach!
