There is some talk within the Top Rank brain trust of matching Kelly Pavlik with Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. on December 4th in Dallas at Cowboys Stadium. One of the factors in having this become a reality is how Chavez Jr. looks on his next fight, which will take place on September 25th.
His new trainer, Freddie Roach, isn’t sure Junior is ready for such an assignment and wants to see how he performs in their next fight with a full two-month camp.

| Okay, Steve Kim, usually has legitimate sources. If this happens, then Chavez Jr's team have decided to cash out (and thus weren't sold on his legitimacy by a win over Duddy).
Chavez Jr. with slow feet, and a willingness to stand in front, would get beat down by Pavlik. Line up the long jab, then right hand, and we'll get to see alot of Kelly's habit of snapping his right hand up into the air after landing a big one.

| Imagine if they did offer that fight. Pavlik could look at the amount he was getting paid, it could be 1/2 of his normal amount, and he would sign that contract immediately, as it would be the easiest money he could make in the ring. | |

I can't see Chavez Jr.-Pavlik getting done, that would be way too much risk for Jr., it ain't gonna happen.

| Honestly, I think this is a good risk v. reward for Chavez Jr. Pavlik's coming off a tough loss and has had significant trouble making weight. Plus his mental focus may be messed up right now. So they get to take a shot at the most wounded big name fighter out there. A win makes Chavez Jr. legit and puts him in line to a title shot. I'm sure Roach could make an entire playbook of holes for Jr. to exploit.
And if they get Dallas Stadium there's crazy $ in it for both sides.
Who makes more sense for Chavez Jr. if they can get it done?
As for Pavlik, even though he'd get criticized for not taking his rematch, this fight obviously makes sense for him to take. Maybe he could get it at a catch weight so he could justify it. |

| “I want one or two more fights with [Chavez Jr.] first before we go after any names like that,” said Roach. “Let’s have an eight-week training camp and see what we can do. We did well with a four-week training camp. We can do better once we get to know each other a little bit more. So I’d like one or two more fights and then Cotto, Pavlik, any of those guys. No problem.” http://www.maxboxing.com/news/main-lead/catching-up-with-freddie-roach1 |

| If Pavlik hit Chavez with almost any of the right hands that Duddy hit Chavez with, then we will have one fortunate son laid out on the canvas.

I agree, but it's now or ever for Chavez. He's been around for a while now and he needs to shit or get off the pot. If he's not ready now, he never will be.

| I disagree with having him step up to Pavlik.
Duddy is what 30th best middleweight in the world (somewhere in that range). Chavez Jr hasn't faced a guy who is close to top 10 yet. Why stick him in there with a guy who was the man at 160???
duddy was a step up, time for another step up, but not a leap that large.

| Apparently the (rumored) plan for Chavez Jr is fight Mayorga in September then Pavlik in December Props to Chumpez if this turns out to be true for finally challenging himself | |

Maybe Top Rank knows something about Pavlik that the public does not. It was widely reported that he was going to move to Super Middleweight, now he's fighting a "C" level fighter in Chavez Jr? Chavez Jr. has a large fan-base and Pavlik doesn't. If Chavez Jr. beats Pavlik this would catapult him to super-stardom. This fight only benefits one guy, Chavez Jr. Win lose or draw I bet Top Rank drops Pavlik after they're done with their current contract.
