| No, Cain and Dos Santos are next. We could see a rematch down the line. |

| I didn't say it'll be the next fight. I meant by the time they retire. |

| I say no. There's too many young contenders at HW and Carwin is probably too old to still be in contention by the time all of those are sorted. | |

| Never say never though, I can definitely see a rematch once Cain and Dos Santos get their shots. Of course as long as Shane keeps winning. |

| I can see that happening. But it was a shame Carwin's cardio failed him. He hurt Brock but good. | |

| I say yes, especially once Brock loses to Cain. | |

| I'm very surprised by the results. A trilogy completely defies probability (wow, I sound like a huge nerd) here.
For a rematch the two fighters would need to be on the same level ranking-wise. For that to happen, Brock would need to lose to Cain and Carwin beat whoever he fights next, or some similar sequence of wins/losses on both sides. The chances of that alone are probably under 50%.
Then they need to actually make the matchup if they get on the same level - that means no injuries, both guys being available at the same time, etc. The chances of that are probably about 50% in itself.
Then they need to fight, and Carwin needs to win. The chances of that are probably slightly under 50%.
Then step one and two need to occur all over again.
There might be a few more involving lower level fighters but I can think of maybe 5 trilogies *ever*. All of which involved GOAT UFC fighters (GSP-Hughes, Liddell-Randy) or huge rivalries+random tournament pairings (Wandy-Rampage, Wandy-Sakuraba). Carwin-Lesnar has none of that going for it.
the odds of a trilogy happening here are very very small and if a bookie took the time to come up with such an obscure bet I would think the odds would be at least 8-10/1 against. I spent more time typing this post than this meaningless poll deserves, but I am shocked to see 8/12 people vote yes. It seems like people are still riding the emotion of the fight (Entertaining fight. Me want watch more entertaining fight. Joe Silva go make more entertaining fight.) rather than actually thinking this through.

| Yep I'll sig bet that.
Probablity mumbo jumbo aside, the fight was successful and very action packed, and Carwin just barely lost. There are only two contenders on the horizon so in 12 months Shane could be ready again if Brock remains champion as long as Lesnar starts fighting more than once a year.

| I went yes, a rematch is a year and a half away. 3 dominant wins by Carwin and he is right back in there. Then it will depend on wether he can win the rematch. I say yes.
As far as age goes, Carwin has tons of tread left on the tire's, I see him as a young 35.

| I mean we were one fight away from Mir vs Brock 3, and the 1st two were barely competitive. | |

As far as age goes, Carwin has tons of tread left on the tire's, I see him as a young 35. Fixed. There aint no HW contenders on the horizon. There are four real contenders in the UFC at the moment. Lesnar, Carwin, Cain and Dos Santos/Nelson winner. Carwin doesn't need three wins to get back up the mountain with Mir losing to both Carwin and Lesnar in one sided rapings and Duffee's strange loss. 1-2 at the most. A rematch sooner than later with this memory still hanging around would easily sell. Same storyline as before with the two giants ect but this time you have the backstory of Carwin letting victory slip through his fingers. Also, you'd have to believe Lesnar as champion would want to rematch Carwin to prove his win wasn't luck and that he is superior overall. I know he can't be pleased with that first round. A trilogy could happen, but if Brock loses before Carwin gets back up the mountain it may never happen, and also, should Carwin win a second fight in one sided fashion, the series may end up taking on a GSP-Serrian/Cung-Le-Smithian vibe where a third fight may not even be needed anyway.

| I know everyone is hating on Wolf here for picking Cain over Brock, but Brock losing to Cain is not so unlikely. I will still pick Brock, but Cain has a great chance. Lets think about it...Cain has better boxing then Brock and Carwin. The whole notion that he doesn't have power was dispelled against Nog. It wasn't that he lacked power, he just wasnt sitting down on his punches or throwing combinations. He hit Nog with that 4 punch combination and had him seeing stars. If Cain can move in and out of the pocket and avoid the takedown, he could very well win. Also, Cain is more mobile on the ground and if he can take Lesnar down (which isnt that crazy if youve seen Cain in his college days), he has a good chance. Ill still pick Brock, but this is another toss up for me. | |
