EVEN IN DEFEAT, EMELIANENKO MORE EXCITING THAN CHAMPS SILVA AND ST-PIERRE

Taking on Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic on the feet, having a grappling war (three times) with Antonio Rodrigo "Minitoro" Nogeira, fighting toe to toe with Brett Rogers, and leaping into the guard of ADCC champion Fabricio Werdum would be four examples of particularly painful suicides for most. But not for Fedor Emelianenko. Taking the fight to the opponent's domain of comfort rather than countering it has been a trademark of Emelianenko's fights and a very successful one over the past decade. At Saturday's Strikeforce event, the tactic finally caught up with him, and for any other fighter, I would call his actions foolish. But what was on display was classic Emelianenko going for the kill regardless of danger. This time it didn't pay off in the win column, but to a fan such as myself, this flash fight was more exciting than UFC champ Anderson Silva and Georges St-Pierre's recent fights combined. He truly seems unafraid of losing, and his fights are all the better for it."

It's true.

Fedor does it a lot but you can't blame Silva and Pierre for not playing into their opponents advantage because they have been burnt in the past by doing that.

Now that Fedor has been burnt, don't be surprised to see Fedor possibly take a more conservative approach like Spider and GSP for now on.

That was his classic aggressiveness, recklessness, and everything else. It just came a little too soon. He was at no time in a good spot with Fabricio on the ground. He was in a web of legs.
