| No replacement yet
[hr] Edit - Leben has verbally agreed to take the fight and is waiting for the bout agreement. It looks like that win over Aaron Simpson will pay off more than just KO of the night as he should be getting a good purse for this high reward relatively low risk fight. Should Leben win he will fly back into the top 15 on many rankings and if he loses, especially since this is such a short notice bout, it won't damage his reputation very much.
He looked great in his last outing, stopping the wrestling of Aaron Simpson who is a decorated wrestler with a lot of buzz coming into the bout in route to earning a second round TKO. Can he stop the Judo takedowns Akiyama and deal with his speed, athleticism and power? This is an interesting bout to say the least. -Wolf

| Cracked ribs have forced Wanderlei Silva out of next weekend's UFC 116 co-headliner with Yoshihiro Akiyama. That's the word from UFC president Dana White, who today confirmed the injury with MMAFighting.com. MMAjunkie.com ( www.mmajunkie.com) could not immediately reach Silva or his representatives for details, but a search is underway for a replacement. UFC 116 takes place July 3 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Silva vs. Akiyama had been given second billing on the night's pay-per-view broadcast behind a heavyweight title-unification bout between champ Brock Lesnar and interim title-holder Shane Carwin. The bout between Akiyama (13-1-2 MMA, 1-0 UFC) and Silva (33-10-1 MMA, 3-5 UFC) had been rumored for a half year before UFC officials finally put it together. Silva was coming off a triumphant return to the win, which came via a unanimous-decision victory over Michael Bisping at UFC 110. The victory followed back-to-back losses to Quinton Jackson and Rich Franklin. Akiyama, meanwhile, has been inactive since his UFC debut this past July at UFC 100, where he defeated Alan Belcher via close split decision for his 11th straight victory. | |

| Damn, I've been looking forward to that fight for a long time. They need to get someone good in to replace him. Akiyama is one of many in 185 bunched on the cusp of being a contender for title fight consideration. Tossing 185 Jason Brillz does a lot less for moving him then it did at 205 for Rogerio, he was already ranked high enough for it not to be a big issue. | |

| Who can step in???? Okami or Munoz? They're fighting on VS soon. Miller & Bisping fought a few weeks ago...can he jump in? Belcher & Cote fought a few weeks before MIller/Bisping... I'd love a rematch. Jorge Rivera could make it work... Personally I'd love it if Hughes moved up and took the fight. Maybe even a catch weight at 180 since Yama is so small. | |

| This card outside of the main event was already pretty so-so... now it takes a huge hit. | |

| I think you have to pull the Munoz / Okami fight off Versus now and put one of them in against Akiyama. Those are the best MW's out there who might be in training given that fight is 5 weeks off. Would be easier with the time left to rebuild a contest for that spot on that card also. But it all depends on who calls Dana first also. Crying baby gets slapped or .. however that goes. | |

| Wiki has an announcement already that the Crippler is gonna step in.
and this also is on the UFC 116 wiki
'chickapapapikipoo'
I'll let you decide what that means,
but the answer is maybe.

| A Leben win over Akiyama is about as good as a win over Le, but I think more of Le than most else do. | |

| Leben is a wild card for any fight. He can break anyone's hands with his chin. I think he walks into something nasty though in this one. | |
