Former heavyweight champion Nikolai Valuev has his back against the wall. A $1.5 million dollar offer is sitting on the table for Valuev to fight WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko in the fall. Valuev's only other option, a rematch with WBA champion David Haye, is now in the trash.
According to Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer, Valuev defaulted on the contract clause to exercise his right to force a rematch with Haye. Haye won a close twelve round decision to capture the title from Valuev last November, and appears to be on the verge of completing a deal to fight countryman Audley Harrison.
"The time expired to hear whether or not Nikolai Valuev is going to exercise his options on the rematch option. They have failed to notify us," said Schaefer to BoxingScene.com. "And so, David and his team are going to go ahead and Adam Booth and Hayemaker are going to go ahead and see who his next fight will be against and who he will be fighting.
