| Finally. We will have a new world champ at 175. http://www.ringtv.com/blog/2028/ring_to_recognize_dawsonpascal_as_175pound_champ/THE RING magazine will recognize the winner of the Chad Dawson-Jean Pascal fight on Aug. 14 as its light heavyweight champion, magazine editor Nigel Collins announced. The 175-pound championship has been vacant since Joe Calzaghe retired in February of last year. Dawson is currently THE RING’s No. 1-rated light heavyweight; Pascal is No. 3. “Normally, filling a RING championship vacancy requires a match between the No. 1 and No. 2 contenders,” Collins said. “But under certain circumstances, we will recognize the winner of a bout between the No. 1 and No. 3 contenders, and the Dawson-Pascal match is such a circumstance. “No. 2 contender Glen Johnson has already lost twice to Dawson, so it makes perfect sense to award THE RING light heavyweight championship to the Dawson-Pascal winner.” The prestigious RING magazine championship dates back to 1922, when the very first RING belt was presented to then-heavyweight champion Jack Dempsey. THE RING’s current championship policy was launched in the April 2002 issue. | |

| It makes sense. Glen Johnson is #2 and Dawson has just defeated him. Pascal is #3 so it qualifies for the rare exception of #1 vs #3 to fill the vacancy. | |

| Finally Chad will get his crown. I really like Pascal but I don't think he's got a great shot of causing an upset, I just hope he at least makes Dawson work hard to capture the crown. |

| Pascal can make it competitive, but I see Dawson being crowned Ring Champ. Look forward to the fight.
Where is Dawson's career going? He wins this, then what??? No big fights on the horizon. He can't draw a crowd. His fights aren't exciting. He has said that he could get to 168. Dropping down to 168 for a fight against Bute or the super 6 winner, is probably going to be his biggest fight next year.

| His next move after this needs to be a Lucian Bute fight, that's the only way Chad will get back on HBO. |

| I agree. Fighting Bute would be a good fight. Dawson says he can make 168. I believe him.
Bute started his career at 175. If for some reason Dawson is convinced he can't get all the way down to 168, then split the difference and make it 171 or 172 and let them fight at a catchweight. Anything, just give Dawson someone interesting to fight.

| Bute and Cloud. That will keep him occcupied for the next 2 years at the rate Dawson fights. That should be enough time for another challenger to emerge. | |

| If Cloud looks good on the August 7th undercard against Glen Johnson, then that could be a possibility. |
