| Dan Rafael (2:14 PM) Gary's answer: To come back first quarter of 2011 and fight Pascal (in the rematch). Was on the phone with Yvon Michel and looks like fight could wind up in Quebec.

| Yup this is a silly move.
If I am Dawson I go after Cloud while Pascal has has big interim fight.

| Just what I expected that idiot to do. Shaw is on glue if he thinks that fight will happen the first quarter of '11. Second quarter maybe. | |

It's the perfect way to reignite the excitement for the Light Heavyweight division. |

| I can understand him not wanting to fight Cloud, because if he loses to Cloud he doesn't have a shot to win back his title. However he has to fight someone, fight a can if you have to, its better than nothing. | |

Even if Chad was to lose to Cloud he's still guaranteed a rematch with Pascal, it's contractually obligated. |

+1 Dawson can take the risk and still be in line for a payday in Canada again

| When does Dawson ever take a risk? All he does is take time off (in and out of the ring). | |

LOL. I think today that's called 'Highly Active." Doesn't a serious athlete realize he has things to work on? Doesn't a serious athlete take a fight nor two where he can do that? The competition need not be world beaters in order for one to improve. Go fight Yusef Mack or the Jamaican McKenzie. Heck want to get some REAL work in and prepare for Pascal? Fight Beibut Shumenov.

| Exactly fighting a guy like Mack would be perfect. Let the cut heal properly then get a good camp in, fight aggresively (at least so for Dawson's normal standards) and get a decent win.
I'm of the opinion that all the top guys (except for the rare few that it makes absolutely no business sense to do so), should be fighting 3-4 times a year minimum.

Now maybe 1 or 2 of those should be "I have things to work on fights" and the other 2-3 should be "Going for the gusto" kinds of fights. I look back at Arguello and Duran and Chavez and what Ray Robinson talked about and I just can't see it any other way. Specifically the idea of taking a break after a dismal, dismal performance in a loss seems like exactly the wrong thing to do.

| Definitely fights to work on things.
Nothing wrong with taking on a 15-20 best in the weight class guy, who is a decent fighter, will allow you to stay sharp and work on certain strategies to help you in later fights.

The lists I've been doing recently for the greats show that 2/3 of their fights were NOT with ranked guys/legends. Now some of those were early and late, bgut even at their peaks these guys were taking fights that were tune-ups. They are a good idea. I mean is there any other sport where the best guys play ONLY in the biggest events?

| Hopefully Jean can retain the championship vs Hopkins and knock Dawson out next time.
I have my doubts that Pascal can get by BHop AND Dawson, which makes Interbox's position of letting Bute/Pascal marinate all the more perplexing.

| So true, how do you stay sharp when you have a training camp for 8 weeks(longer than would be necessary if guys didn't sit so much), fight, then sit for 6 months, then another 8-weeks and another fight.
Sitting forever: It doesn't help you to stay sharp. It doesn't help you improve. And as you get older, it probably doesn't help you retain your overall athleticism and reflexes.
After a fight, wouldn't a month off be enough to let the body recooperate.

It depends on the savagry of the fight of course, but I'd think in most cases two weeks would be the MOST before you started running and hitting bags and stuff again. I can understand long breaks between sparring and getting hit, I can't understand long breaks in the other stuff. One just varies the intensity/volume of work so one doesn't get bored or overtrained doesn't one?

| HBO is to blame for this also. Dawson can sit out the rest of the year and still get an HBO date for next year against Pascal. | |
