| Alfredo "Perro" Angulo has vacated his 'interim' trinket rather than be forced to face the 'full' champ Dzinziruk in a mandatory, all this despite sharing the same promoter. That is a blatant duck. http://espn.go.com/sports/boxing/notebook/_/id/5298856/shot-title-long-time-coming-allan-greenPromoter Gary Shaw told ESPN.com that Alfredo "Perro" Angulo will vacate his interim junior middleweight belt. Angulo was ordered to face full titlist Sergei Dzinziruk, whom Shaw co-promotes, in a mandatory fight, but has no intention of doing so. Angulo is already scheduled to face ex-titleholder Joachim Alcine July 17 on HBO | |

| Shaw was talking about Angulo-Cotto. I think he just wants a bigger money fight. | |

| don't they all ? If I'm Dzinziruk, I'm in Shaw's face asking what good he is as a promoter if he can't even get me a fight with a fighter he promotes. | |

| Angulo makes them money. They won't put him in with anyone who will outbox him unless there is alot of money involved. | |

| I'm sick of alot of the promotional companies.
Angulo should fight D. Don't take an interim belt unless you plan to fight for the normal belt.
Khan-I have no problem if they want to have a home fight. Big money, make it a decent but handpicked opponent. That is fine. But that should be for him to work on some things and stay sharp in preparation for a showdown with Bradley, Alexander, or Maidana. I doubt any of those fights occur.
Haye-please fight a Klitschko and get it over with. If you are going to avoid them, at least fight Adamek and let us see the last 2 crusierweight champs.
Golden Boy-not interested in a junior welter tourney. Of course not.

| Angulo is fighting Alcine next. I've never seen Alcine fight but he is ranked in the Top 10 at 154. Hard to say Shaw is protecting him. | |

| The problem I have with Khan is he looked flawless in his last fight. He is ready for, and should be fighting the best.
Haye, I'm done talking about.
GBP is making me angry with holding up 140.

Why fight Alcine when there is a shot at a trinket? Why vacate a interim trinket rather than fight one of the divisions top fighters? It's a duck.

| I say he is being protected. Dzinziruk is the champ. Angulo won an interim belt and has thrown the belt in the trash because they don't want him anywhere near D (because of the style matchup).
Alcine can fight, but it is all about the style matchups with Angulo. Put him in with guys who can be caught. Don't dare put him in with a very good boxer.

| You missed my point. Forget the Alcine fight. He can fight Alcine. Angulo dropped his interim belt. Basically dumped it in the trash. Did so as they don't want to put him in with Dzinziruk after Alcine. The point of fighting for an interim belt (interim belt-dumbest thing ever) is to get a shot at the official belt. | |

| Funny how Shaw claims Khan is being protected yet he's keeping Angulo away from the WBO champion. |

| Oscar (Clearwater,FL) Hey Dan, Why doesn't Perro Angulo fight Sergei Dzinziruk? is it only because they have the same promoter?
Dan Rafael (12:14 PM) No, it's because Gary is protecting Angulo from Dznziruk because Dzinziruk would toy with El Perro. |

| Tom E (Jersey City, NJ) Awesome point about Shaw, Dan. He's got some stones calling out GBP for protecting Kahn when we're finding out that he won't put Perro in with The Razor.
Dan Rafael (12:17 PM) Pot calling the kettle black. Golden Boy wanted to make Erislandy Lara with Angulo. Gary said no. That's cool. But he was protecting Angulo, and there is nothing wrong with that. Just remember that when you call somebody else out for the same thing. |

| I'd barely say Angulo has been protected. Hes fought/fight Cintron, Julio, and Acline. For a guy with less than 20 fights that impressive. He was also signed to fight Mayorga at one point, but Mayorga pulled out for his BS reasons. Sergie is a bad match up for Angulo, but its a fight that can happen later on so it can be built for a bigger attraction. It will happen, but at this point we all understand a very unexperienced brawler wont make it against such a good seasoned boxer. Angulo can fight Cotto, Cintron, Margarito and Kirkland (winnable fights) late this year to early next year and make himself a very lucrative name. Yes hes being protected from Sergie, but its understandable especially since Angulo is Shaws favorite fighter. | |

| Diego408, being protected isn't always about the caliber of fighter you have faced. It can be more than that.
Styles make fights. His team has picked guys that are good style matchups for him. Cintron-not known as a great boxer. He has pretty good technique and power, but he is not a pure boxer, and has questionable mental strength. They picked him thinking he would wilt like he did versus Margarito twice.
Julio-a decent boxer, decent puncher, but he can be outboxed, has looked bad at 154 (looked better at 147), and though he was once highly touted, he appears to have reached his upside when he was a prospect. He was a good opponent for Angulo. A credible name. A guy who can box, but likely wouldn't be able to withstand pressure for 12 rounds. That proved to be true.
Alcine-Not a master boxer.
After seeing Cintron outbox Angulo they are avoiding any pure boxers. They will continue to avoid them like the plague. In that respect they are protecting him. No other way to put it.

| HOW IS ANGULO INEXPERIENCED?????
He had a good amateur career. Represented Mexico in the 2004 Olympics. He is almost 28 years old. How is he inexperienced??? He'd have more pro fights, but he had a good amateur career (fighting good competition).
He didn't need alot of fights to get up to speed in the pro game because of that extensive amateur experience. he also got a ton of good sparring in his time as a pro. Sparring guys like Jesus Soto-Karass and Margacheato (amongst other names). According to Angulo, he also sparred Roy Jones and Fernando Vargas years ago.
I'm confused as to how he is inexperienced.
