Let me make it clear that I do not condone dirty fighters. That said, there are some fighters, who for some reason or another, get away with the some of the most illegal and dangerous tactics ever seen in a boxing ring. I'll only name one here because I'm interested in the opinions and picks of the board. Though I've always admired Evander Holyfield, his head butting tactics were something I had mixed feelings about. Nevertheless, it was a very clever, if not a disturbingly dangerous move. Holyfield would go in as though he was about to throw a straight left. This punch was nothing but a decoy. He would follow through with the left by ramming his head into his opponent. It was actually a one -two punch with the left setting up the butt. This has never been officially discussed by any magazine, boxing commission or blow by blow announcer. (Accusations made by the Tyson camp were dismissed. Mike was dirty too but not smart enough to get away with it.) Yet, it was the deciding factor in his fight with Hasim Rahman. Are there any other fighters that come to mind who, though they were super talented, had brains like steel traps?

frank several fighters fought with great careers and also by using THERE liberal rulebook..harry greb was the king of them all..if fact i think in boxing circles he was called the king of the alley fighters or something like that..harry mastered using the laces of the gloves headbutts thumbing the eyes holding and hitting you low while spining you.he knew all the tricks and mastered them to perfection...his star pupil id say was fritzie zivic..camacho had so much natural talent and he looked beautifull spining you and hiting you at the same time..saddler fought with a no holds bared attitude...pep was a clean fighter but if you started to rough house him you found that wille would return the compliment fast..
armstrong because of his style could hit you south of the boarder or have his head as a third glove on occasion but it was his style rather then intentional..
max baer employed the backhand often after missing a punch....theses are just a few of course...

In all fairness Tyson's in side hooks upstairs were almost always followed by big elbows.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. is a brilliant dirty fighter. He uses forearms and elbows in a lot of different ways. He'll punch an unprepared fighter. He holds guys gloves just long enough that they can't block a right lead or hook. He can immobilize guys in the clinch and leave himself with a free hand to punch. And he usually does all this with an awareness of where the ref is in the ring.

Those are good points, Gumby. I never noticed any of that, then I looked at the Marquez fight and saw what you were talking about.
