| It was one of the most disturbing books I've ever read. Jack Newfield has to be one of the top researchers of his era. It's a must read. After I read it, I gave the book away. I couldn't stand the sight of King on the cover. One of the more interesting finds was Al Sharpton and his relationship to Don King. If a Black fighter refused to sign with King, Sharpton was paid to publicly condemn him as an "Uncle Tom." If this fighter signed with Don, Don would milk him of every penny he had. I don't know too much about the "Uncle Tom" phrase, but I doubt it means one who refused to sign his life over to the Mafia. LOL | |

| Yup. Newfield is great and King is evil. Fascinating, but truly evil. | |

| Will add it to my must read list.
An Uncle Tom is basically a sell out. A black person trying to act white or giving in to the white man. A real hateful thing to say to someone back in the day.
The Thrilla in Manilla Documentary talks about how that's the taunt that really got to Frasier and haunted him for the rest of his life. He still hates Ali to this day... |

| yes it is a graet book, got it for christmas last year, and your right gumby, pretty amazing Ali (who was middle class and had a father that was a church painter) got away with calling the son of a sharecropper/bootlegger from the Delta a Uncle Tom | |
