Rewatching Floyd Mayweather vs Jose Luis Castillo 1

THis is FLoyd Mayweather Jrs closest fight ever, everyone agrees on that except some dumbass judge from the De La Hoya fight. Since Im bored and have it Im gonna rewatch it and score it since I havent in a couple months.

Round 1 : Mayweather comes out working the jab and lands a left hook in the first 20 seconds. 30 seconds into the round Mayweather lands 3 straight lefts, and starts jabbing to the body, Castillo seems to miss everything in the first minute. But starts going for the jab. 1:30 left in the round and Floyd lands a right hand. Castillo barely misses a left hook that he wings from the hip. Minte left in the round and they clinch for the first time for only a second or so. 30 seconds left they clinch again for a few seconds but on the seperation wham Floyd lands a sneaky fast right hand. Round ends with them posturing and trading jabs, Floyd lands 2-1

IMO Castillo clearly won 8 rounds.

between round Roger says keep fighting clean, Merchant says Castillo has a sore left sholder, Castillo was credited with landing 3 of 27 punches in the round.

ROund 2: Floyd lands a left hook to the gloves Castillo slips but it was cause of the punch IMO, no knockdown. Castillo gets tagged with a counter right lunging in a minute into the round. Floyd lands a right, Castillo tries to double jab, misses, and wham nails Floyd with a right elbow. Thats ironic, Floyd looks shaken and checks for blood. there is none. Half way into the round astillo gets Floyd against the corner for 2 to 3 seconds and lands 3 good body shots. Right left hook for Castillo, Castillo starts to stalk more. Body jab Floyd, Floyd circles and times Castillo coing in with a right, Castillo lunges with a left and hits air, Floyd jabs to the body. They clinch, Floyd lands a right to the head, then to the body, then back to the head, Castillo fires 3 punches that Floyd dips.

Round 3: 30 seconds into the third it happens. Castillo lands his first counter punch of the right, Floyd overextends a jab and Jose gets him with the right. Castillo still cant hit Floyd with much though. Floyd still working the body jab and jab to the head.Counter jab to Castillos head. Floyds backs into a corner, goes into a clinch and takes several punches from a rough Castillo. Floyd with a straight right hand Floyd gets against the ropes and pushes Castillo away and lands, Castillo gets him back on the ropes, Floyd gives him the elbow. Floyd works his way out spins Castillo and lands, what else, a jab.

Larry says I think this is much tougher thann Floyd thought. Roger Mayweather had said if you throw a beer bottle into the ring it will hit Castillo, hahah

Round 4: Spend the first minute in the middle of the ring trading jabs, who ya think does better? Floyd lands a few straight rights, Castillo lands a left hook with a minute 40 left. Body jab. jab, Castillo cant get to the ropes like he did in the 3rd (which he won on Ledermans card). Castillo gets warned for hitting on the break. FLoyd goes southpaw with a minute left and lands a right uppercut. 30 seconds left he has his back to the ropes and goes orthodox, Castillo gets Floyd to the ropes momentarily, at the end of the round Castillo lands a left uppercut.

Castillos corner disagrees with me and thinks they won that round

Round 5: Castillo lands a good jab, Floyd lands a straight right, overextends and eats a left hook, Floyd feels the ropes on his back and starts zipping side to side, lures Castillo in and wham, big right uppercut, Castillo throws right, Floyd lands left, Castillo walks into a right. Floyd lands some jab to the head and body and Castillo clinches him into a corner, broken up but its clear he gets the better of Floyd and wants to be in a clinch. Floyd tries an elbow and Castillo smartly throws a 1-2. Castillo shoots a right and eats a 1-2, they go at it for the remainding 20 seconds.

close round but I think Floyd won it, compubx say 16 punches for Castillo, 13 for Mayweather

Floyd is controlling the round IMO, Castillo is just roughing him up when he gets his chance so far

Round 6 : The USA Chant starts, hahaha, the two spend the first minute in the center of the ring with them traiding jabs and straights, Castillo lands a good right hook, the two clinch and Floyd spins him instantly wnating no part of the clinch. Castillo lands good punches to the head, gets Floyd against the ropes and lands a hook to the head , body, and hip, Floyd complains. Castillo engages Floyd puts his hand against Castillo head, Castilo punches and mauls Floyd, body pushes Floyd to the ground. Floyd is complaining and goes on the defensive with Castillo coming in like a mad man, Castillo lands to the body head, then Mayweather lands a right hand, ding ding.

Round 7 : the two start trading as usual, in the center, Castillo gets Floyd on a rope, Floyd uses elbow and lands the right hand, Castillo comes back with a right, Castillo gets him by the ropes and throws 3 punch combintation, Floyd spins out. Floyd zings around throwing jabs and body jab, eats a good right hand, Flyod then gets warned for an elbow. Floyd keeps moving around with Castillo moving with him. Castillo lands another left hook, Floyd pushes him away and gegts warned again for an elbow. Castillo throws 3 punches none connect cleanly but the crowd is happy, lands a good punch, then lands 3 good body shots the crowd goes nuts, ding ding ding, left hook to Mayweathers chin.

Round 8 : the two spend the first minute circling and trading as usual, Floyd lands a good jab, and is backing out instantly when Castillo gets close, Floyd throws 3 jabs, and boom big rigiht hand from Castillo to Floyds body. Floyd lands a good jab and right hand to Castillo coming in. Castillo lands to the body in a clinch, broken up, Floyd spins Castillo, and later Castillo lands a good right hand. Castillo works a clinch Floyd pushes out, lands 2 good jbs, the 2 go into a clinch , and Floyd lands a body shot??? the two clinch and Castillo lands a low blow, A POINT IS DEDUCTED.

I honestly thought Floyd won that round and that is the big deciding round right there with a 10-8. Not a very good dedution. but Castillo was warned earlier

Round 9 : Castillo rushes Floyd when he is in the corner and wham, Floyd lands a big counter right they clinch the ref breaks The two continue trading, Larry gets pissed at the ref for breaking so much. Castillo lands a good left hook, chases wtih 2 more left hooks, and eats a corner right for his troubles. Castillo continues to stalk but isnt landing mmuch, a minute left and this round is up for grabs. good ;eft uppercut for Castillo. Mayweather isnt punching back, much, Castillo is. Floyd throws a jab and eats a right hand. Castillo land some body shots in a clinch and then a uppercut in the center of the ring. The bell rings and Floyd lands an obvious late shot to Castillo.

Round 10 : The two come out and instantly trade to the body, 30 seconds in Floyd lands a good 1-2 to the face, Castillo lands as well. Floyd lands another 1-2 Castillo is unfazed, Castillo chases Floyd around. chopping right hand over the top b Castillo, then a left hook. the two work inside, Floyd spins, jum in left hook, Castillo gets Floyds side and pounds Floyd with 3 to the ribs, gets Floyds back lands a 1-2 to the back/body, no warning from the ref. Floyd smiles, Castillo gets Floyd to the ropes and lands , Floyd gets warned for elbow, Floyd uses elbow. DEDUCTION. round ends.

Round 11 : Castillo stalks, lands a right hand, Floyd lands a left, trade jabs. they get in close, Floyd does the Mongoose, and Castillo smartly digs to the body, Floyd and Castillo stay there for 30 seconds with Castillo landing to the body and Floyd going for the head. Floyd lands a good uppercut. Castillo goes to the body, Floyd throws 3 to the body, the 2 trade several combinations. Good left hook to the body by Castillo. Castillo throws a uppercut, Floyd throws 3 punch combination. The two trade in close range, Casill to the hip, FLoyd with an uppercut, Castillo uppercut, body, body. Mayweather has stopped backing up. he is standing in the middle rather than backing into the ropes. Castillo throws a 1-2-3-4 and tags Mayweather with the 4 right on the bell. Mayweather looks pissed.

Castillo gets Floyd against the ropes and fucking what left right hook combo to the hips, Lederman calls them, the 2 trade right hands. left hook Castill, Floyd dips, Castillo throws 4 left hooks, jab for Floyd, The ref seperates them and Floyd dips the ref ahhaha. Clinch and Castillo goes body body head. Left hook Castillo, 2 hooks to the body for Castillo, Floyd throws a jab, Castillo throws 13 unanswered hooks, Left hook Castillo, right hook Floyd, Floyd throws a right hand, ding ding ding, the two continue trading Floyd throwing a 1-2 Castillo two hooks, ref breaks them up and Castillo goes after Floyd, Floyd goes to the ring post.

I watched this again a few months ago. I had Castillo clearly winning six and Floyd clearly winning four. I had tow very close rounds I gave to Castillo.

I had it 8-4. I could see it six-six with the deduction giving Floyd the win.

ya marble, the first 4 were clear for Mayweatehr I thought, and then the msot was Castillo, your right there were two extremely close rounds believe it was 8 and 11, that more than likely decided the fight

Bird whats so bad is that I was a Floyd fan back then and right after the fight I said Fuck he just lost.

Good scoring. I think you've opened up possible new fad on this board, though we'll all have to make time for it. Going back and scoring old fights. Some of the fights I'd love to score are "Ali - Frazier I" and "Leonard - Duran I." Not challenging any of those decisions, I'd just think it'd be interesting. Also, "Leonard Hearns I" You obviously know the 10 point must system ( as I'm sure a lot of others on here do as well.). I'll admit that I've found the time to score some fights and I'm come up with some controversial scorecards and some that are identical to the judges of the fight in question. My first challenge would be for you, Marble, dmar, Soonermark,Ali, Powerpuncher and Canvas and who ever else, to score the first Ali - Frazier fight. I'd like to score it as well.

ya upon reviewing the fight this one was alot closer than FLoyd haters would like you to beliee, they try to push it as a clear loss for Flyod that he didnt deserve when in reality it was a close fight that had some extremely close rounds and it just comes down to what you like more, boxing or being the aggressor,

A big part of the official decision was that Floyd was the bigger star and fighting in the US. Part of being a star/hometown fighter is getting gift decisions and getting the nod in close fights. It's not fair, but that's part of the game. Floyd to his credit, took a rematch and ended any discussion over who was the better fighter.

and you are right Floyd completely dominated the rematch and made it hard to believe he was ever in a tough fight with Castillo by the way he handled him with ease in the rematch
