The Camps : Miletich Fighting System Empty
PostSubject: The Camps : Miletich Fighting System   The Camps : Miletich Fighting System EmptySun May 23, 2010 9:10 pm

I will be hghlighting some of the best MMA camps of all time. I figured what better way to kick it off then by talking about the greatest MMA camp of all time.

Pat Miletich if I remember correctly began with Jeremy Horn (correct me if im wrong) when Horn came out to live with Miletich and begin training with him. Miletich made his own camp after noticing how well the Lions Den worked out, and boy did Pat succeed. He started his gym in 1997 and gained instant success and recognition.

Pat himself became the first Lightweight Champion (later changed to Welter) in UFC history (Bullshit Very Happy ). He lost his title to Carlos Newton only to see his pupil Matt Hughes win the title from Newton. This effectively ended Pat Miletich in the UFC because 1. he was mad he didnt get the shot at Newton and 2. he wasnt going to fight his stable mate.

Again Correct me if Im wrong but Pat Miletich Fighting System created 14 champions in the MMA world. Including 5 UFC Champions ranging from Tim Sylvia, Matt hughes, Rich Franklin, Jens Pulver.

Other notable fighters from Pats stable wre the already mentioned Jeremy Horn, LaVerne Clark (the first pro boxer to win in UFC), Josh Neer, Justin McFreidies, Ben Rothwell, Ian Freeman, and LC Davis. The list goes on and on.

I will know rank the top 5 fighters of Pats system and list their most impressive victory (IMO).

5. Tim Sylvia - some might say no way its Horn but Im gonna go with the maine-iac, he was one of the most lethal strikers in heavyweight history, and was a 2 time UFC Heavyweight Champion (the only Heavyweight Champ Pat had). His most impressive victory IMO was his domination of Ricco Rodriguez.

4. Rich Franklin - The Ace, at one time considered the P4P best fighter in the world had a very impressive career and run as the Middleweight Champ of the world. I dont know what fight to pic for Franklin so I am gonna piss all yall off and say vs Ken Shamrock. hahah

3. Pat Miletich - the man himself, was a good fighter, real good wrestling and ok off his back. Well rounded, I will go with the Mikey Burnett fight, hey it got him his title and Mikey was one of the top fighters in the world.

2. Jens Pulver - The greatest Lightweight that I have ever seen. Sorry BJ, this guy had wins over Penn and Uno when they were both considered the best Lightweights in the world. Hard to argue with that. I will say the win over Penn was the biggest win of his career.

1. Matt Hughes - we may not like him but damn it we gotta respect him. The man was a great fighter, still a tough out for anyone not in the elite upper echelon, and he had a great run as P4P king. I will say his best win ever was when he avenged Miletich and beat Carlos Newton. A close 2nd is the armbar on GSP

I wonder who I will do next??????

Pretty solid work, couple things

After losing to Newton, Pat almost immediately came back and KO'd Shone Carter with a headkick. Since Hughes won the Title from Newton, Miletich not wanting to step on Matt's toes, tried moving up to MW and got dominated by Lindland.

Although Franklin is by far the more likable fighter, I'm sure a big fan, Timmy when he wasn't "1 Ton" was the better fighter out of Miletich's camp. Timmy fought in fights for the Title (whether challenging or defending) like 8-9 times, holding it on 2 different occasions with wins over Ricco and AA. His "who have you beaten list" is more impressive than that of Franklin.

When was Rich considered the best P4P fighter in the World?

Also Franklin's best win is against Evan Tanner for the Title, Shamrock went on to lose like what 5 fights in a row after his loss to Rich and he clearly wasn't the fighter he once was at the time of his loss to Franklin.

BJ without question is a better all-time LW then Jens, shouldn't have to elaborate much here.

Matt Hughes best wins are his win over GSP or his avenged loss win over BJ

all the down low talk of the time was Miletich was PISSED he didnt get a shot after beating Shonie

When Rich was on a 20-1 run, wont argue about the Tanner win

IMO Jens is the best Ive seen, BJ wasnt prime but he was damn good and dangerous, Uno was prime, plus i just like Jens, I can also argue if we all watch Frankie Edgar outbox the "prime" BJ that Jens could do it again

Not sure why he was pissed, he wasn't exactly killing it at that point in his career, he was chill enough to take a fight a MW.

That was BJ's forth fight, BJ would dominate Prime Jens now

Is that just your opinion at the time on Franklin? cause I have no recollection of him being ranked #1 P4P

I have had a few training partners go up there to train and said every sparring session is 100% or at least was when they visited. Two different people on two different occassions.

DOnt know if I agree to all out sparring for extended periods but chute box and Pats gyms thrived for a long time.
