| sooner he will be remembered as a decent fighter who was a cleaver southpaw .respectable talent but thats it..no differnt then we will remember jerry quarry or a jimmy young or a jimmy ellis in the heavyweight division..nor guys like gil turner del flanagan kenny lane in the 50s in the welter and lightweight division...true lifelong boxing fans will remember him as such..casual fans will forget him.. | |

| he was at one time the number 1 or 2 Heavyweight in the division
alot of people like to build David Tua up like he was some good
he couldnt even touch Byrd, and Byrd started to rock TUA
a very solid fighter and tough night for anybody n the division. Maybe mst underrated heavyweight of last 10 years

| byrd was a good fighter. his lack of power is what made prevented him from being at the top. he was always a top 3 or so HW. his main problem were the big men like the klits because of his lack of size and power to keep them off of him. he will go down in history as a solid HW that was pretty good but never got to that next level. | |

| I think his resume compares to Tyson's. I never thought about it but Tyson's list of opponents kinda suck. Who's better? An over the hill Holyfield or an aged Larry Holmes? Who knows? I'll always remember Byrd as a class act and an underrated boxer. | |

| Byrd was an "overachiever" who kept a Heavyweight title for a few years, I never disliked the guy, but most of his fights were snoozefests. He deserves credit for being a small HW champ who was able to hang with the big dogs.
My 2 favorite Chris Byrd fights were the ones against Ike Ibeabuchi, and Wlad Klitschko.

| Im not a big Ike guy
Byrd's big mistake was trying to become an entertaining fighter, he should have just kept doing what got him the title IMO

Lennox wouldve spanked his ass Maybe but LL was very beatable. You would think a big tough guy like Ike would have a chance at KOing LL. |

A darn good pro who had a fine career. A couple of steps short of the HOF. Kind of a Buddy McGirt, Michael Moorer, Simon Brown level guy?

Byrd's big mistake was trying to become an entertaining fighter, he should have just kept doing what got him the title IMO Either way I really liked IKE. It sucks we never got to find out if he could have been great. Same with Valero. See I think we DID find out about both of those guys. They couldn't have been great. They lacked the mental makeup to even remain eligible to compete. Same with Tony Ayala and Ricky Womack.
