There was two different discussions going on in this thread 1. The use of the Race Card 2: dumb athletes. Though there was examples given, nobody focused on just one race. Until you I suppose.

Marino and Manning could have gotten a zero and it wouldn't matter. They are both top ten all time at QB.

The first post was about how his family member who is being sued by an African American (black) kid and his parents for failing their kid because of racism. If it was just about a dumb athlete, than mentioning race would have no point other than pushing his own agenda. But being that the law suit is being based on "racism" than mentioning race seems to be a needed detail in his short story.

Than after that, people were talking about how the use of "the race card" with no actual merit is wrong. That statement isn't even debatable. But I do stand corrected because one person did mention a specific race before you (ohiovol62) .. other than that I see the words "race," "minorities," an example of 1 athlete "Vince Young" (who doesnt represent all Black Athletes) .. and BBC had a comment that is an overplayed bit..

Bird, you made direct reference to my post about the Wonderlic. I wasn't referring to race, I was referring to athletes who couldn't compete in an elementary school spelling bee. If you listen to Marino and Manning, they aren't exactly Rhodes Scholars either. Watching Marino try to put a coherent sentence together is extremely painful and we all know he wouldn't have that job if not for his name. Without a script for his commercials, Manning is probably about as articulate. I used the most recent single digit score I could think of. Nothing more...

I guess my point is that we need to stop calling them student athletes in high school and college since many are far from students and the schools are at fault for that. In all honesty, I would be all for dropping these kids from school since they are too stupid to be there and probably don't have any interest in being educated. Create a league comprised of nothing but sports camps to hone their skills to entertain us in competeing against "real schools" and in the pro leagues when they are ready. Require that they learn nothing more than basic reading, writing and math skills since that's little more than many of them know now. Let them become pro athletes, and if they end up not being good enough to make it put them through some classes to learn a trade or release them to try and find a way on their own... But handing these guys a diploma of any kind is a joke to me...

No run game. No defense. Average recievers. Dallas Clark wouldn't even start for most teams IMO. No one does more with less.

I agree... The guy has the best football mind for a player I've probably ever seen. He still probably couldn't get past the first round on "Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader". In this world, we give high school diploma's and often college degrees based on athletic ability, and I guess for some that's okay. I just personally find it offensive knowing how hard I worked to get through school... Even if it was eons ago...
