No. I stand by my opinion that using a taser was completely unnecessary in this situation. I feel that a taser should only be used when someone is acting violently towards others. This kid wasn't violent. He was just being an idiot and trying to get on tv. You don't be deserve to be tasered for that. Look, if they identify that he A) is acting violent B) has a weapon (which in this case he didn't, and you asked "well how are they supposed to know if he has a weapon?" Well how about looking at his hands and seeing if there is a weapon in his hands?)
He couldn't have one hidden?

Dude this is a baseball stadium. Not sure about you guys but at yankee stdium they pat you down and check all bags for weapons. It's called preventative measures.

If the security team was competent then the un-brandished phantom weapon that kid might of maybe possibly had or not had would be of no concern.

I've never been patted down going into Minate Maid, the Astrosdome, Wrigley, The Jake, Old Yankee, Shea, Fenway, or Camden Yard.
They check purses, not pockets.

Used right, Tasers save lives — disabling targets, instead of shooting them dead. But law enforcement officials don’t always use the shock weapons as firearm substitute. Tasers are also employed in all kinds of situations in which an officer would never even consider pulling out his weapon. Old ladies get blasted, as a result.
Should the kid of been shot dead? If so then the taser would of been acceptable to use. They are handy for fat cops and imbeciles though.

So i guess everyone should just be tasered on the chance that they might have a pocket knife?

Again, you guys are using poor examples here... Let's keep our eyes on the ball and discuss the incident at hand.
As far as screening for weapons... Does this cop personally screen everyone for weapons? No. Is it possible to sneak things into a baseball park? Yes. I have seen people (Maybe even LA) smoking pot with a pot pipe in Seattle. I've seen people using knives to carve some food in San Francisco... Should those have gotten through security? You guys can play cop hater all you want, but this cop had no way of knowing what the kids intentions were and since the kid broke the law and wasn't cooperating I think his actions should be found justifiable...

If they have leaped the fence, evaded security and aren't complying when a cop tells them to stop and get down... YES.

Why is ignorance an excuse for violence? Is that the level of competency to expect?

Why?... He lost most of his rights the second he jumped on the field and broke the law. He lost more when he didn't comply with a cop. It was a little pocket knife that for all intent and purposes ended the career of Monica Seles. I'm sure she wishes there was a cop with a taser between her and "a fan".

You cant Tase someone because you dont know wether they have a weapon or not. If you see a weapon fine. But he didn't and still shot him anyway. This kid was probably gonna run around for a few more seconds and give up. There was no need to taser him. He wasn't a threat.

Running away from security laughing with a towel in your hand is threatening though.

What's the ignorance? You guys not seeing the obvious? It's not ignorant for a cop to exercise his right to use force if someone who is breaking the law doesn't comply with direct orders. If you can tell me or any officer how they are to KNOW FOR A FACT that this kid had no intent to endanger or harm anyone, I'll back off the point.

Because he had no weapon, wasn't running towards athletes, was being chased and was shot in the back. He was running away, not confronting anyone.

Again, no way to know that for sure... If they wait until they see a weapon, the kid could be unloading a clip taking out half the starting line-up beofre you can react. That's the reality, unfortunately. It's psycho's like the father and son that attacked Gamboa or the guy that attacked Seles that have put us in this spot. And fans have to realize they can't just do whatever they feel like doing such as break the law and jump a fence to go running on the field.
