He had a college wrestling backround though, it's not about jobs, it was about backrounds

Ya sort of LA. But you're still missing the point.

It's about size and athleticism ultimately. No other divisions have guys ten years removed from wrestling waltzing into title fights as routinely as the UFC does. No other division has guys who work full time in the real world still doing UFC title fights on the weekend like the HW division does.

I know Lesnar and Carwin have wrestling, but the only reason they have that, and their current jobs w/ the UFC ultimately just boils down to size and strength. Brett Rogers is big and athletic too, and has nice hand speed for someone his size. He doesn't have the wrestling base, but he is a big strong guy who is a natural fighter. He improves every fight and comparisons with Kimbo are unfair. Rogers would have given Kimbo a life threatening concussion had they met in EliteXC.

But we were talking about the backrounds and similarities between Kimbo and Rogers, sure you can say Rogers is better (bigger), but the similarities are there.

They are black and worked for Elitexc. They however found mma very differently with one training the sport part time while he made an honest living as a tire mechanic and the other picking up gang money by performing in human dogfights in backyards in the ghetto. Did he ever fight on the same card as pitbulls I wonder.

One is in headline title fights with Overeem and Fedor, the other is in sideshow reality TV series and fighting journeymen three fights deep on the undercard.

Carwin and Rogers have much more similar careers. They both fought the same caliber of fighter in smaller shows until they reached the televised big leagues where they won 1 or 2 high profile fights and immediately found themselves in fights against the two highest ranked and hyped HWs in the world. They both worked fulltime at blue colar jobs right until their title fights.

One wrestled. One didn't. One is black. One isn't. Otherwise they are like a different imagining of the same comic book character in seperate universes. Carwin is the Earth 616 Nick Fury while Rogers is Ultimate Nick Fury.

Neither had any martial arts backround coming into MMA, and that's what was getting talked about.

Rogers is nothing like Carwin, Rogers is a big balck guy that throws his hands, he really doesn't have any skill no matter how you try to sell it to me. Carwin has everthing Rogers had and better, plus good wrestling

What LA is trying to say is

"While I don't mean to ignore the blatant similarities in why they are successful and their paths to success(that the weak HW division was ripe for big strong athletic rookies to win a couple fights and be elevated to contender status), I like one since he is white and has a background in wrestling, and I don't like the other because he is black and has no real martial arts back ground besides his over five years of mixed martial arts training, which isn't good enough on its own to me for some reason. If he wrestled 15 years ago he'd be way more legit. Because of this I don't like him, even though he has racked up some good wins and performances."

I don't like him because he's delusionally arrogant, has a fluke win over AA and is just a big black guy that throws his hands and people try and act like he's legit.

but Kings why hate on Kimbo? It was elite prior, and now the UFC who have tried to cash in on the popularity that Kimbo created on his own.

And by no means is Kimbo the worst fighter in the UFC. He is def a guy who puts on entertaining fights. Is he one dimensional, sure but so is Maia.

Of coarse Rogers or any other top fighter would crush him, but that is besides the point.

Of course he's not the worst fighter, the guy he's about to figh at UFC 113 is..Dana White knows what he's doing, otherwise he would not have booked the fight...and how dare you use Maia an an example to defend Kimbo. Last i check Maia fights the best in his division and is one of the best MW's in the world.

Also, when has Kimbo ever been exciting in an MMA fight? When Bo Cantrell threw the fight? when he knocked out that geez Tank Abbott(who probably threw the fight), when he was for the most part handled by James Thompson before his ear popped? When Seth knocked him out in 13 seconds? When Roy Nelson said he was going to toy with him and did exactly that when he probably could have submitted him whenever he wanted in boring fucking exhibition bout? Or that snoozefest with Houston Alexander where they both had to kneel down and catch their breath as soon as the bell rang in a fight that had almost no activity? Oh yeah, thats a real athlete right there, a true mixed martial artist.

The only reason people find these fights exciting because they are emotionally invested in this circus and can't watch his fights objectively. The thing that boggles my mind is i can't understand why people are emotionally invested in him. Why is it that if any real MMA fighter got caught by Seth Petreuzelli in the first 13 seconds of the fight and knocked the fuck out they might as well retire because they arent shit and then it comes out that the promoters were fight tampering to make sure Kimbo had the best chance to win...and Bo Cantrell being a local guy, he was kicked off his team after the Kimbo Slice fight and the word is because they found out HE THREW THE FUCKING FIGHT. Where has he been since then? Not once has he fought. How hard is it to see how big a fraud Kimbo Slice is and how Gary Shaw and now Dana White are succesfully making people believe that he's for real. It's an embarrasment.

...and he's not a good guy. He used to go around picking fights with drunks and crackheads for fucks sake.

Let me put it this way. I'd be way less vocal about Kimbo if people admitted that he is simply a sideshow attraction like Butterbean was for the big boxing cards back in the day..but then nobody cares anymore because the fans that got him in UFC actually think he can go on to fight a top fighter, or even a middle of the pack fighter. It's bad for the sport because these assholes think that because he beat up a bunch of schmo's on youtube that he could hack it in the UFC...how is this good for the sport? It brings professional MMA fighters down to the level of a bar room brawler.

Not that I gave you the neg, but

Grim is 10-1, with 9 ko's(8 in the 1st rd) and one sub by strikes(also in the 1st). One of the 1st rd ko's was over a guy who was widely regarded as top 10 in the division. His only loss was a fairly competitive fight vs the sports goat. He will not turn 30 till 2011. the differences between he and Kimbo are much more prominent then the similarities.

It was about their backrounds as fighters before entering MMA, not what they are now. Also he has 9 wins vs. nobodies, a fluke vs. AA and I didn't really think it was competitive at all, he landed a jab first punch of the fight that broke Fedor's nose, only reason it lasted that long.

when a guy with big power ko's a dude with a suspect chin, that is the exact opposite of a fluke.

and your sayin the only reason the fedor fight lasted as long as it did was because grim broke his nose with a jab? Is that supposed to be a knock?

A 10 second bull rush KO of AA, probably took him lightly too, fluke IMO

We'll wait and see, this has me being right writtin all over it. Overeem KO's Rogers, problem is after that SF doesn't have the right kind of HWs to expose him, but I'm thinking 0-2 in his next 2 fights.

AA's prob was not taking grim lightly, AA's prob was fighting a guy with big KO power after getting knocked unconcious in his previous fight.

and how does anything have you being right? cause you think he loses to Overeem? If they give grim Werdum or bigfoot after Overeem, no way does grim lose his next 2.

I'm trying to watch the game here and post.

It'll prove I'm right if he falls off like I think he will, I don't think the guy is anything special, I still think a guy like Kongo and him is a 50/50 fight. I'm not a believer in the least, but it is possible he won't lose his nest 2 because SF doesn't have the right kind of HW's to expose him, maybe he'll go Reem then AA, and I think Werdum could beat him, Big foot blows, I'd prob pick Grimm over him.

Oh ya if you win you have to wait a week if Mosley beats Mayweather (which he wont) cause I made a bet with someone on boxing
