| BJJ has a serious case too. But the trend is heading towards wrestling once again. | |

| I voted wrestling, most wrestlers are some tough, strong mother fuckers. They are also use to weight cuts and it seems to transfer over well into MMA with GnP and grinding out wins. | |

| More UFC champions are black belts in BJJ then were college wrestlers, so I have changed my vote to BJJ. | |

| you missed the thread where some dude argued that since there are no submissions anymore in championship fights then therefore BJJ is declining as an effective MMA martial art, which was both incorrect as there are still plenty, and ignores the fact that nearly every MMA champion is a BJJ blackbelt. It mocks that view. | |

| I voted bjj i think we go through trends but not evryone needs to learn wwrestling not everyone needs to know how to box, kixkbox, or do muay thai. Everyone including brock lesnar needs to know some bjj. So to me that means bjj wins. | |

| No votes yet for thugjitsu?
What about that dude who fought for Affliction?
Bobby Green, I think. Anyway, he said his style was "street".

| I voted for Thugjitsu - with it's BJJ roots and willingness to go for groin kicks and eye-gouges, there isn't much that can beat it.
GSP applied Thugjitsu nicely in his second fight with Hughes, peperring his cup with low kicks until the hands came down to proptect the jewels, and then good night! A perfect example of Thugjitsu. BJ Penn vs GSP 1 - even though BJ lost the fight, he did a good job messing up GSP's eyesight with a subtle poke and then beat the crap out of him in the first round. Of course, GSP eventually beat him, but if BJ applied his thugjitsu in the second fight it would have been close.

| Well, just to be different and after considering everything, I went with Judo. It has some strikes, some grappling and a very effective clinch game. You take that as a base and expand as needed.

| I actually don't think there is one, but I went with Thug-Jitsu because it's my favorite. Well, actually Face-Smash-Fu is my favorite but that's not up there. Neither is Street, which is obviously not bad because Bobby Greene took a round from Dan Lauzon with it. Anyways, I say there is not a single most effective base for MMA because if you look at the champs and high level contenders, there's such a variety of martial arts bases used. | |

| 10 years ago, it was BJJ. Now that the sport has opened up comercially in the US more, I think you're seeing wrestling take over and the easier transition base to MMA.
BJJ still may be the *BEST* base, but wrestling is certianly the easiest to transfer from and have a leg up on competition.
