Nope! I agree with Ninja. The SF HW title is a joke. Faydoor is the champ and we all know it. Now we have to watch the #4 guy fight the best, and the number 2 guy in SF fight the number 3? Big clusterfuck going on there.

| Mir getting a shot at this interm title is similar to this. This isn't the best news, but at least Overeem is fighting a top ten opponent.
Worst case scenario - Rogers gets destroyed by Overeem, fanning the fires of those who question Fedor's opponents.
Best case scenario - Overeem is viciously KO'd by Rogers, who has already been beaten badly by the true MMA champion.

| to be fair, having it on the line gives the belt more meaning than it would have had it not been on the line. It's not like Fedor was going to be ready to fight in May anyway and when you have Overeem actually booked to fight in the states, you don't want to take chances trying to schedule around Fedor's ever changing schedule and you don't want to pin two of Fedor's top challengers in SF together and eliminate one of them by putting Werdum vs. him. I say no deal...Overeem-Rogers should be a good fight, especially for Overeem as he needs to fight and beat somebody like Rogers. | |

| While I am trying to avoid sinking into the cartoonish notion of evil Russian boogiemen shouldering all the blame for this whole thing, honestly, this is a product of the M-1 relationship as much as anything else.
M-1's position has always been Fedor is an M-1 fighter, before being a Strikeforce/Affliction/Dream/UFC fighter. They have maintained their belief that at this point, Fedor is above titles. They understand Fedor is the lineal champion no matter who he fights. Fedor doesn't seem to care about the Srikeforce title. I have a hard time penalizing Strikeforce too much for not forcing Fedor to be their champion at a time when Fedor balked on a title fight to renegotiate his contract and has shown little interest in earning that distinction.
They don't have the young new found talent the UFC does to fill these title fights. They can't use Werdum and Overeem against eachother, since that would have left no one left presently that Fedor would consider fighting. They had to keep a Werdum fight on the table to negotiate with Fedor.
The occurance of Overeem fighting for Strikeforce and actually defending his title is so rare that is still hasn't been confirmed to be something that actually exists yet. This is where I do penalize Strikeforce, because they are forcing Overeem to be their champion, though he shown little interest in maintaining that distinction. A fight had to be made. What else could they have done? Unlike Werdum, who can take a fight whenever, Overeem is a busy man, and his time table has to be followed, or you just don't get him. It is painfully obvious Strikeforce is intent on taking whatever they get from Overeem.
All things considered, a Rogers Overeem fight isn't all that bad. At least the title will be in play. If this fight actually happens, the whole MMA world might as well just be thankful he fought anyone in the top ten at all.

SF has gotten a raw deal from them both. It is a shame because they have done both guys well from what I have heard. It would be funny if Werdum and Rogers whip those asses. Fedor would be screaming DAAANAAA!

| Funny thing is, if Fedor does lose to Werdum somehow he'll be worthless to the UFC. Dana has said before he's only open to further negotiations if Fedor keeps winning. | |
