WEC ratings struggle- 373K viewers

This past weekend's WEC 47 event on Versus scored a 0.46 household rating and 373,000 viewers, MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) today confirmed.

The ratings were down sharply – 42 percent in all – compared to World Extreme Cagefighting's prior show, WEC 46 (640,000 viewers), which took place in January and benefited from proven draw Urijah Faber and a main-event title-unification bout between Benson Henderson and Jamie Varner.

not good, they had a very good title fight on the card and also fan favorites Pulver and Torres on the card.

Makes me think that PPV is going to do horrible

i will buy aldo faber just for that fight unless I have something else going on that night. I do agree this does not bode well for wec PPV

they didn't even have any big sporting events to compete with that night. No footbal, no major basketball games. Maybe the Sunday shows do better then the Saturday shows?

So what's the over under set for WEC PPV? I'll start one with 100K

They usually do struggle without Urijah.

UFC's 6 or 7 years ago would do over 100K and Ken vs Tito at 150K was their new record back then if I remember correctly.

Merger

Yeah this PPV seems like it will totally trip zuffa into one of some kind. They could do it smart though I think. Make Vs be like the JV. fight nights and other free, smaller main event type cards with the young crop and borderline guys. Keep TUF, Unleashed, and Pride on spike and make the PPV's deeper with more good fights.

All this UFC and WEC ppv and vs usage is kind of off. I mean how many PPV's have we been charged for that didn't have any kind of title fight as the headline? 7 belts under one banner could be a good thing.

UFC 6 Ken vs Severn 245,000 buys

Why don't they have WEC on Spike TV? Most people only watch that channel because of UFC anyways. They coudl have fit it in and it seems like Spike would be all about it you would think? It is a shame because that was one of the best WEC cards to date imo. Granted I haven't watched alot of them. I feel bad for the lighter guys and Versus. I thought alot of people would have tuned in. Maybe 400k atleast.

I think it's because they wanted people to think of WEC as a totally seperate entity from the UFC so not to confuse people or take away from the brand name for each respective organization(even though they are sister companies under the same umbrella). It's like how Pepsi owns Mountain Dew. But because Mountain Dew is a recognized brand all it's own.

I wouldn't feel bad for the lighter weight guys in WEC or Versus. Both will come out of a merger just fine. UFC will start doing shows on Versus more often(meaning huge exposure for Versus), and most of the relevant fighters will be absorbed under the UFC brand in their same weight classes. It kind of works for all sides.

I agree with everything, but I don't like the merger idea. I know it is bound to happen, but Zuffa made poor decisions and ran with this UFC on Versus a year or two too late. Zuffa should have bought commercial time on Spike and promoted WEC a year ago. They should have already had a fight nite about a year ago also. I could have seen the viewers #'s up doubled more than likely.
