PostSubject: 5 fighters who need to retire   5 fighters who need to retire EmptyThu Feb 25, 2010 6:29 pm

These 5 I am picking, because they just don't have much, if anything, left in the tank:

Mirko - He is killing his own legend, just for a paycheck.
Big Nog - Has looked good in 1 fight in 2 years, time to pack it in.
Pulver - Tired of watching him get worked over by questionable opponents.
Trigg - Hasn't looked good in a while.
Hughes - Looks in great shape, but is not the fighter he once was.

These 5 I am picking, because they just don't have much, if anything, left in the tank:

Mirko - He is killing his own legend, just for a paycheck. - sad but true.
Big Nog - Has looked good in 1 fight in 2 years, time to pack it in. - Just because he can finally be stopped like everyone else is no reason to retire.
Pulver - Tired of watching him get worked over by questionable opponents. - true
Trigg - Hasn't looked good in a while. - looked great at MW. Should have stayed there.
Hughes - Looks in great shape, but is not the fighter he once was. - please. He just beat Serra and could still trash half the top ten.

Naw, I'm with Wolf on this one. Hughes could still handle plenty of those guys.

i disagree. I think Serra takes him in a rematch as well, i really hope we get to see the rematch cause Hughes has no business fighting guys like alves and GSP obviously. Fitch would maul him, even the overrated british strikers would probably hurt him before he got a chance to lay n pray. He cant strike with anyone in the top 10 and guys like Paulo Thiago would submit him if he tries to lay on them.

Hughes has one of the best wrestling/BJJ hybrid games in MMA. Like an old Jake Sheilds. He would beat any of the jokers from AKA.

Who has Hughes lost to? The #1 WW in the world and then the #2/3. Hughes still has plently of gas in the tank. His style isn't going to dominate like it used to, but he's got enough to beat a lot of top guys. After he dismantles Henzo, he'll get a big name and prove it.

I agree with Farmer, Sooner, and Wolf.

Hughes is still probably the #6 or 7 WW in the world and would beat alotta the top 10 and 15 guys.

my 5 that need to retire:

- Mark Coleman
- Randy Couture
- Chuck Liddell after his next fight
- Stephan Bonnar
- Jens Pulver

Yeah, Idk how you guys can say Hughes should retire. He may not be what he once was, but with that being said he's still a borderline top 5 WW IMO.

Hughes' lack of standup and diminishing speed have rendered him unable to compete with top 10 talent these days. Who he's lost to doesn't say as much as who he struggled against does. He spent most of the Serra fight seeing double due to a head butt that occurred in the first round. What do you think happens when someone who throws like Koscheck, Alves, Rumble, Hardy, Semtex, or Paulo Thiago nails him?

His striking skills were always sub par, and thats what keeps him from really extending his career. His shot is telegraphed as a result of his speed dropping. His bread and butter is therefore less effective. You think anyone who does any kind of research won't meet every shot with a knee now?
