If Golden Boy Promotions is unable to find a suitable opponent to find Michael Katsidis on March 27, the junior welterweight co-feature between Marcos Maidana and Victor Cayo could be elevated to the main event, and junior middleweight prospect Erislandy Lara may open up the HBO televised card.
Katsidis was scheduled to fight IBF super featherweight champ Robert Guerrero, who was moving up in weight. As BoxingScene.com previously reported on Monday, Guerrero withdrew from the fight in order to spend time with his family. Guerrero's wife Casey is battling leukemia and very ill.
Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer told BoxingScene.com that he would love to match Lara with hard punching Alfredo Angulo. He tried to make the fight before Angulo was matched against Joel Julio on April 24. He said Angulo had no interest in the fight.
"The show will happen. Maidana and Cayo is already done, Schaefer told BoxingScene.com. "If we can't find a opponent for Michael Katsidis, one thing we've talked about is having Erislandy Lara on the show."
"I would love to make a fight between Lara and Alfredo Angulo. We tried to make that fight and he didn't want it. Angulo said he didn't want to fight a guy with nine fights, imagine that."
