BoxingScene.com was advised by Top Rank CEO Bob Arum that Antonio Margarito's fight with Carson Jones could be switched to a planned Latin Fury pay-per-view for May 8, which Arum plans to center around the Mexican festivities planned for that week.
Margarito has applied for a license to box in the state of Texas. A decision is expected by February 11. Arum had planned for Margarito to fight Jones on the Manny Pacquiao-Joshua Clottey pay-per-view on March 13 at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas. If Margarito's application is denied by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, Arum would replace the fight with Humberto Soto vs. David Diaz, possibly for the interim-WBC lightweight title.
"If Margarito is denied by Texas, we have a plan to replace that fight with Humberto Soto against David Diaz, which is one hell of a fight. And that might possibly be for an interim WBC lightweight title," Arum told BoxingScene.com. "Margarito and Jones would move to May 8. That will be a Latin Fury."
Even if Margarito's application is approved, the fight with Jones could still move to May 8, says Arum. He likes the Soto-Diaz fight and believes it would fit in well with the existing undercard.
