| I like Kimbo in this one. I don't think Matt can beat him standing and Matt doesn't really have a ground game either that I know of. | |

I definitey think Matt can beat Kimbo. He hits hard as hell but his head isnt never in the fight. Kimbo will probably win but matt can definitely KO his ass.

| Not to be racist, but Taylor is obviously black, and black people, even real fighters like Houston and Rampage and boxing fans who know what real boxing looks like, think Kimbo is this scary monster. Houston ran for his life, Rampage drafted him first, ect.
It's a really strange phenomenon honestly.

| These are the kinds of fights we will see Kimbo in. Really it's a pretty good matchup considering neither guy means anything in the HW division. Kinda risky for Kimbo actually unless he's developed a ground game. I really think if he could be taught how to gNp from someone's guard while staying away from submissions (or getting swept) he could be MUCH more effective. | |

Because the Japanese have a completely different outlook on MMA then we do. They see it as spectacle or circus, not an actually sport. MMA in Japan for the most part revolves around storylines, faces, and heels. Elite fighters fighting other elite fighters won't get you high ratings in Japan anymore. This is evident when you see Sengoku in huge financial trouble. I mean HMC and Minowaman get higher ratings than Aoki and Crusher do... I see no reason the UFC have to take this route. If they want the media to take them seriously and actually treat MMA like a professional sport, Zuffa and company should leave the freak fights to Dream and the WWE. I believe Herschel Walker fighting and James Toney actually being considered for fights in the UFC are huge embarrassments for the sport. These incidents make it that much harder to defend it from people who think MMA is a joke.

| But that isn't the entire product, that is just there to create media buzz on TV and the blogsphere. The sport is still growing and this is another way to garner interest. The idea is to have some buzz inducing nonsense generate extra ratings, and then use that opportunity to introduce the added viewers and writers to the sport proper. By all estimations it is working.
I see no problem with the UFC having freekshows as long as they don't award them title shots against old men. Prize fighting has always had some level of showmanship and theatre associated with it.
Also, the Japanese view it as a real sport like they do K-1, but the relationship between MMA and pro-wrestling is much closer because that is how it originated. The way they view pro-wrestling is really what is different there. Judo, karate, sumo and other combat sports are a very important Japanese culture, and pro-wrestling is just an extention of that relationship, adding flare and scripted theatre. Ninja, perhaps you didn't mean too, but you marginalize the Japanese relationship with Martial Arts.

| All they're doing is milking Kimbo for everything they can, I'd do it if I owned the UFC. Dana said the only way Kimbo gets in the UFC is by competing on TUF, he did so, got ridiculously high ratings when he fought, and lost, as expected. He was given a fight on the Finale, as most non-winners are, and fought another shitty fighter similar to himself, in hopes he'd get the win, so they could milk him some more. Now he gets another limited fighter, again with a good chance at winning. Let them milk it as long as they can IMO, watch 113's buy rate get a nice little increase by having Kimbo on the card. Remember it just a matter of time before he fights a legit guy and is embarrassed.
Note: Probably didn't need a thread in all reality.

| If Matt Riddle gets a thread so does this fight.
Kimbo has fought real fighters and been embarrassed. He has also fought real fighters and won. He is a middling talent with big talent buy rates. No brainer the UFC would use him.
And it's better the UFC uses him for good as opposed to another EliteXC coming along and making him the super star. Kimbo isn't co-headlining after all.

| If Ken was roided out like he was in his last fight then he might have won but more than likely Kimbo would have KO'd him. | |
