Great Amateur Fight Footage Empty
PostSubject: Great Amateur Fight Footage   Great Amateur Fight Footage EmptySat Jan 09, 2010 6:28 pm

I do this alot on ESPN boards, put up a little history and the video of famous amateur fights if footage is available.

So here it is, first time i have done this at ninjas place, been a long time coming , hope you guys enjoy

Aaron Pryor (204-16) vs Thomas Hearns (155-Cool ringside tickets 10 dollars!!!!- at 132 a much smaller Pryor beats Hearns in the most high profile amateur match of all time after the fact. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1GNR8paIpv8

Shane Mosley (250-16) vs Stevie Johnston (260-13) - These two fought 4 times in amateurs splitting the 4 2-2. Johnston went 1-1 with Terron Millet, then lost to Vernon Forrest for Olympic Team spot. WOW, here is the Mosley Johnston bouts. Here is their 139 fight. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mVWMsWN77mc

Kostya Tzsyu (259-11) vs Vernon Forrest (225-15) - 1991 amateur championships, Vernon gets utterly destroyed by Tzsyu. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kA-PybmMePA&feature=related

Felix Savon (358-17) vs David Tua - same 1991 championships, Savon shows why he might be the greatest amateur heavyweight ever. You know how guys on here are always bragging on Tua's granite chin? It took Savon about 20 seconds https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ja71FoZQrfY&feature=related

Vernon Forrest (225-15) vs Shane Mosley (250-16) - You all probably know Vernon beat Mosley fairly easy in amateurs, unfortunantly I cant find any footage of it. 3-0 for Vernon vs Shane.

Lennox Lewis (95-9) vs Riddick Bowe (104-18) - Gold Medal atch up was the best match up possible. And Lennox made Riddick quit. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-z7wFR8dJYg

Virgill Hill (150-11) vs Michael Nunn (168-6) - Nunn won the first time these two future champions met, but Virgill Hill avenged that loss twice going 2-1 verse Nunn. No footage available sadly.

Roy Jones Jr(121-12) vs Victor Levine and Gerald McClellan - Just a fun, fun amateur fight, which was much tougher than you would expect. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lkByf6Sdw-Q&feature=related. McClellan defeated Roy in the amateurs

William Joppy (48-4 vs Chris Byrd (275-19) - At Middleweight, William Joppy pulls off a HUGE upset over Byrd.

Lamon Brewster vs Felix Savon - David Izon, DaVaryl Williamson, Sultan Ibragimov, and Lamon Brewster where all destroyed by Savon, here is the footage. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bv-skAQzbF8&feature=PlayList&p=5AEA312E90C05623&playnext=1&playnext_from=PL&index=34

Pernell Whitaker (201-14) vs Angel Herrera - Whitaker fighting a much older and experienced Cuban national team Herrera, it is a great amateur fight. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6OPFL4Mai48&feature=PlayList&p=5AEA312E90C05623&index=35

Oscar De La Hoya (223-5) vs Marco Rudolph (207-28-1) - Rudolph was the only person to defeat De La Hoya in international competition. For the gold medal Oscar avenges his loss and fulfills his mothers last wish,

Larry Holmes vs Duane Bobbick - Wh would have thought Holmes would be a top 10 Heavyweight all time and not Bobbick when this fight took place. Young people can not imagine the amount of hype Bobbick had with his victory over Teleofilio Stevenson. Great footage, Ali and Cossell commentating live. You can see shades of what Holmes would become early with the jab, and then you see why Bobbick had hype. Holmes was DQ'd https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qlBYNQ2mS-w&feature=PlayList&p=5AEA312E90C05623&index=29

Antonio Tarver vs Juan Carlos Gomez (158-2) - Sorry Marble But this is one of the most highly debated amateur bouts out there of recent memory. Did Tarver win? or did Gomez? you watch and decide for yourself. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n-GyU7H2pOQ&feature=PlayList&p=5AEA312E90C05623&index=23

Antonio Tarver vs Vassili Jirov (207-10)
- No controversy here, as Tarver clearly pulled the upset. Really sorry marble ;-)

Sven Ottke (256-47-2) vs Juan Carlos Gomez (158-2)
- Close fight that was decided on points. Both belt holders had cose fight but ultimately Ottke won on ponts handing Gomez his first defeat

Howard Davis(125-5) vs Aaron Pryor (204-16) - These two fought twice, sadly no footage is available. However, the fights where not very close as Howard Davis Jr defeated the Hawk both times they fought.

Johnny Bumphus (341-16) vs Ronnie Shields - For a spot on the 1980 Olympic Squad, Bumphus outpoints Ronnie Shields in the finals.

Lennox Lewis (95-9) vs Tyrell Biggs (59-5)
- 23 year old Tyrell Biggs defeats the young 18 year old Lennox Lewis in the 1984 Olympics. It is clear Lennox is still learning his craft and at 2:43 holy crap he eats a big jab. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rWqTf1qCH_c&feature=PlayList&p=5AEA312E90C05623&index=32

DeMarcus Chop Chop Corley vs Fernando Vargas - 1996 Olympic Trials, Fernando and Chop Chop have a great fight showing a glimpse of what they would become. BS standing 8 count at end. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8GC8rhWsjOU&feature=PlayList&p=5AEA312E90C05623&index=9

HERE IT IS THE LAST FIGHT FLOYD MAYWETHER JR LOST

Floyd Mayweather Jr vs Serafim Todorov - Floyd loses very close controversial match to eventual silver medalist. US boxing protested and the ref sided with Mayweather. but either way here it is guys, last time Floyd lost in a boxing ring . You can already see good lead rights and defense from Floyd, I think he won this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PtZpB6r01Wg&feature=related

Allan Green vs Curtis Stevens - 2002 Golden Gloves Championships. Curtis Stevens was a much hyped, hard hitting NY prospect and Allan Green lesser known but equally talented fighter. Curtis hasn't done much as a pro and Allan's first big shot is June 19th.

saw the tzsyu v forrest bout live.was even more amazing live, the size(height, reach)difference was incredible & watching tzsyu take & master forrest's a,b & c plan made me a fan.the kid could box but as he matured physically he used his silky skills less & relied more on his power, even though i still contend that even though he made zab chicken dance,in that fight it was his boxing smarts that suckered zab
