UFC Lightweight champion Anthony “Showtime” Pettis is set to go under the knife and have surgery for his torn PCL (posterior cruciate ligament) this December. The surgery will have the Champ out for six to eight months.

“The doctor said six to eight months, so I’m hoping six.” Pettis stated to UFC Tonight about his recovery. “I want to be back by summertime,” he said “Hope to get a fight by July.”

Pettis injured his knee in his bout against former UFC Lightweight champion Benson “Smooth” Henderson in August when Pettis took the title via first round arm bar.

After his grueling six to eight month recovery Pettis has requested to face Lightweight contender Nate Diaz upon his return. Pettis showed no hesitation in his hopes that the number one contender upon his return would be Nate Diaz.

Pettis was originally set to face off against T.J. Grant on December 14 on the UFC on FOX 9 card, but Grant had still yet to be medically clears for a concussion he received in training.

Josh Thomson was set to face Pettis as a replacement for Grant in December, but Pettis’ knee injury put a stop to that.

Diaz is coming off of a very impressive first round knockout of Grey “The Bully” Maynard on November 30 breaking his two fight-losing streak. One of the two losses was by Josh Thomson who handed Diaz his first knockout loss in his career.

After Diaz stopped Grey Maynard he had some bold statements to say including stating that he and his training partner Gilbert Melendez where the real two top Lightweights in the world, a comment that did not sit well with the Champion.

“Nate Diaz has been talking so much.” Stated Pettis, “And his last fight, he actually looked pretty decent, but it’s hard to judge against Gray Maynard. I hope Nate works his way up and we get to fight.”

“Nate’s just been talking for a while. Even after his last fight, saying these are the number one and number two lightweights in the world. I mean, that’s taking a shot directly at me,” said Pettis. “That belt is in my front room. It’s there for a reason.”

Shit like this is part of why I don;t like Pettis.  He's using a guy "talking" as an excuse to duck better more deserving competition.  Fuck that, it's just like GSP ducking better more deserving fighters to fight a less talented less deserving fighters.

Pettis is one of those guys that it only takes one look at him to know what a cunt he is.

I know it's weird but I have to ask. Did you just recently discover, for yourself, the word "cunt"? I've noticed a large and frequent incorporation of it into your vocabulary lately.

I use it sometimes, but if you can produce any evidence that my usage of it has increased recently, I'd be interested to see it.

I'd really like for Pettis to want to fight the guys at the top of the division.  This thing about trash talk is essentially a feeding of the trolls.  I wish UFC just did BFC tournaments so these types of junior high beefs don't dictate you fights for titles over what happens in the cage. It's so cunty.

We're really hating on Pettis for wanting to kick Nate Diaz's ass? Geeze

Thomson kind of walked into that shot anyway and it won't be there anymore when he loses to Bendo

He should beat Diaz up, that is fine, but not in a LW title fight unless Diaz earns it.  This kind of talk is how BS title shots get made these days so I'd prefer he keep his mouth shut about wanting his first fight back to be against Diaz, that is too easy for Zuffa to go after.
