Holtzman (4-0) will meet unbeaten champion Nick Newell (9-0) for Newell's lightweight title at a June 14 event expected to be XFC 24 in Tampa, Fla. Sources with knowledge of the fight booking on Wednesday confirmed the date and location to MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com).
Though a precise venue for the event is not yet set, XFC in the past has held events at Tampa Bay Times Forum, formerly St. Pete Times Forum. XFC 24 is expected to have a main card that airs live on AXS TV.
Holtzman in February took a unanimous decision from Jason Hicks (5-1) at XFC 22 in a lightweight title eliminator. It was the first time in his career he had gone the distance after starting his pro career with three straight stoppage wins, all under the XFC banner. The Tennesseean has been fighting professional for a little more than a year.
Newell continues to make headlines for more than just being a "one-armed fighter." The congenital amputee is missing his left hand and most of his left forearm, yet he continues to notch impressive victories – with eight of his nine wins coming by first-round stoppage. In December at XFC 21, he finished Bellator vet Eric Reynolds in 82 seconds with a rear-naked choke. Acclaimed lightweights Eddie Alvarez and Jorge Masvidal needed to get to the third round before finishing Reynolds.
Six of Newell's nine wins have come by submission, and he is 4-0 for XFC. But Holtzman will be his first time facing an unbeaten opponent – though Newell has more than twice as much in-cage experience.

I don't think I've ever actually seen him fight. How does he defend strikes from that side?

He takes his fair share, but he uses his elbow when he can. He has good head and lateral movement also.
You should look up his last few fights. Very impressive work.

He has a couple fights on here and on the web you can check out. He can still use that arm to defend somewhat. He is pretty quick and athletic as well that helps his defense. But he has enough arm there to protect him self.

Missing the limb is an obvious disadvantage, but he also has some tradeoffs that could work in his favor.
He is a welterweight with the arm imo. That is 10 pounds right there he doesn't have to cut. Also, I bet he hits as hard as any LW in the world with the right. Probably some other leverage type stuff that can be worked into the discussion. Fair game imo, he is proving it.

Yeah the announcers have mentioned a couple times during this fights about his arm having some advantages when grappling. It seems hard to break the "hold" when he gets it locked in on a sub. You are absolutely right about the weight cutting. I remember in high school there was a 1 legged wrestler and he was extremely jacked and extremely strong. His upper body and core strength were unreal. His upper body build was comparable to guys competing at much higher weights. His ability to bridge off his back was unreal and something I had never seen before. He was nearly impossible to pin, I never saw anyone come close to holding him on his back.

The main event at XFC 24 was scheduled to be a lightweight title fight between champion Nick Newell (9-0) and top contender Scott Holtzman (4-0). In the co-main event, middleweights Reggie Pena (10-5) and Ricky Rainey (5-1) do battle.
But on Friday, the XFC announced that Newell is refusing to sign to fight Holtzman and will be stripped of his title. A new main event between Holtzman and an opponent to be named is expected to be announced, with XFC's 155-pound title up for grabs.

I'd like to hear Newell side of the story. Maybe I can find something on twitter? I wouldn't be surprised if he has some other offer out there.

"Notorious" Nick Newell about an hour ago EVERYBODY CALM DOWN! First of I AM NOT UNDER CONTRACT WITH THE XFC. XFC promoted a fight that didn't exist yet.
The headlines are misleading and imply that I was stripped of my title because I refused to fight when in fact I just chose not to renew my contract with the XFC. I am not scared to fight anybody. I have been through too much in my life to be scared of any man. All you have to do is look at one of my fights to see my heart & my fearless style. This has nothing to do with me being scared. It is more so just an attempt to bully me into a contract.
XFC trash talking me and trying to slander my name upsets me more then anything but they are promoters. XFC is promoting, thats what they do. They have to try and make their guys look as good as possible and I'm not one of their guys so it is at my expense.
Even though Scott is bad mouthing me as well, I have no ill will towards him. I consider myself to be a professional and as a professional I choose to stay away from negative talk towards other fighters, but I understand that he is an unfortunate victim of circumstance.
Definitely not scared just have my eyes on bigger pastures.
Love you all, Nicholas G. Newell

He's been campaigning for a spot on an upcoming card if I'm not mistaken with Sam Sicilia.
