The sad reality is with todays technology limits there really isn't alot we can do with space at the moment, a manned mission to mars for example is incredibly difficult to achieve because of the distance and trouble with maintaning resources during the trip.

There'd be more than enough money to go for research if it wasn't given to poor lazy people.
