http://www.fightliveshare.com/fight-...ing-in-brazil/Brazilian news outlet Parana Online have reported that former UFC
fighter Assuerio Silva has been shot. The shooting occurred outside his
gym in Curitiba, Brazil on Tuesday evening. Silva was shot five times,
allegedly by a former associate by the name of Robson Freitas. Silva is
now in a serious condition at a local hospital, unclear exactly how bad
the injuries are at this stage. Hopefully Silva can make a steady
recovery and overcome this tragedy.
Assuerio Silva was a heavyweight fighter fighting out of Chute Boxe who
debuted in MMA in 1997. He amassed a quick 8-2 record in Vale Tudo
events in Brazil before heading overseas to Japan to compete in the
legendary PrideFC organization. Silva continued to pick up some good
wins in Japan and Brazil, losing only to Aleksander Emelianenko in a
close decision.
It wasn’t until 2006 that Silva made his way to the octagon to fight in
the UFC. There was a lot of interest in his addition to the UFC roster
with many fans criticizing the UFC heavyweight division for lacking
talented big fighters. Unfortunately Silva went on to lose his first two
fights against former champion Tim Sylvia, and rising heavyweight
prospect Brandon Vera. Silva got one more shot at UFC stardom a year
later against Cheick Kongo, coming up short for the third time. Silva
continued to pick up fights between Japan and Brazil before retiring in
2009.
