Following the recent Joe Lauzon and Jim Miller bloodfest at UFC 155, many have chimed in on the worst cuts in MMA. Regardless of how the cuts come, as barbaric as it sounds, it’s the heart of a fighter that we respect–battling through the blood, sweat, and vision loss to make it to the final bell. So let’s take a look at the top ten worst cuts in all of MMA. Warning, do not proceed unless you’re ready to see some devastating and gruesome pictures of cuts.
#10 Martin Kampmann’s training cut
While this cut did not happen during a fight it is gnarly. Before UFC 111, Martin Kampmann suffered a deep gash above his right eye that left him unable to compete. People called into the question the validity of his withdrawal, so he posted a picture of his cut to prove that he could not compete.
#9 Joe Lauzon vs. Jim Miller
The cut that brought you this article had to make the list, and not only did this cut look bad, it caused a ton of blood loss. It was not known how bad the cut really was until after the bout. Lauzon was nice enough to post pictures of the healing process, but with 40 stitches it will not be a quick one.
#8 Fedor vs. TK
This was Fedor’s only loss before fighting in the states, and it was because of a cut. While it was long laceration, first impressions were that it was not too severe. The extent of the damage was not seen until it was opened up by the refs. This is the type of cut that doesn’t leave many questioning the stoppage.
#7 Matt Hamill vs. Tim Boetsch
Not all cuts happen on the face, and Matt Hamill learned that in his win over Tim Boetsch. Hamill was hit with a huge knee from Boetsch that must have somehow bypassed his mouthpiece and caused a huge split on his lip.
#6 Joe Stevenson vs. BJ Penn
While there is no after the fight pictures that I could find of this cut, the extent of the damage is not really known. The carnage in the cage was nearly disturbing. BJ sliced Stevenson open, and when he went to choke him blood started to spurt like a faucet onto the mat. This is the type of fight that gives fans hope BJ could still compete at 155.
#5 Cub Swanson vs. Jose Aldo
Back before Cub Swanson was a UFC or WEC champion, he was just a Brazilian wrecking machine. In just eight-seconds Jose Aldo knocked out Cub Swanson, earning a title shot. Besides that, Aldo also left a lasting scar on Swanson’s left brow.
#4 Ross Pointon vs. Marius Zaromskis
Before Marius came to the U.S. to fight, he was knocking out people left and right in his home continent of Europe. Obviously, with a cut like this the fight had to be stopped.
#3 Stefan Struve vs. Denis Stojnic
Once again Struve proved that you do not have to lose a fight, even if you are losing blood like a stuck pig. Stojnic was getting the best of Struve in the first round, but his cardio failed in the second. Struve took advantage and submitted his opponent with bloody cut and all.
#2 Miguel Torres vs. Joseph Benavidez
Miguel Torres was trying to get his title back, but he ran into a future top bantamweight in Joseph Benavidez. Not only was Torres cut open wide, but Benavidez made it even worse when he submitted the former champion in the second round.
#1 Marvin Eastman vs. Vitor Belfort
This one was truly one of a kind. It had length, depth, and gore all in one. It’s a mystery to how Vitor’s knee opened up Eastman like a knife to butter. The cut is likely the biggest cut ever seen in MMA, and will probably be for some time. Eastman may have not had the most illustrious career, but he will always be remembered, whether or not he would like to for this fight.

| No Clay Guida with a chunk of scalp hanging off vs Florian? No Anthony Perosh vs Mirko Cro Cop? No Josh Haynes vs Rory Singer or Chris Lytle vs Josh Koscheck or Diego Sanchez vs BJ Penn? Come on now. | |

| I was shocked how much Smith was bleeding after the Gracie fight over the weekend. I only remember seeing/hearing 1 solid shot on the ground and he had blood pouring down his face and back of his head. He had problems walking out of the cage. | |

There some good ones in there, but I agree, some of these are not as bad as those you mentioned. | |
