http://espn.go.com/mma/story/_/id/8627682/anderson-silva-intends-not-fight-late-2013 Like I said bullshit. Silva says alot of things and Dana has gone on record at how difficult Anderson can be to deal with.
There is no reason for Silva to take a sabbatical, if he wants to pursue a movie career he should retire. He will because he can. Simple as that.

They have every right when Silva has a contract with them and is one of their divisional champions. Who is Silva to jerk around a division and make everyone wait for him to make shitty straight to dvd movies ? |

This. Would it really matter if the UFC took his title until he was ready to come back? Let someone else play Champion for awhile until Andy comes back to take what's his.

| Who says they have to wait?
If any fighter says they don't want to fight, that is every bit their right and their choice. You might want the UFC to dictate the lives of their fighters, but they can only control so much of what a guy chooses to do in the end. If he wants to take time off, he has earned the right to, he can financially afford it, then he will, his choice, not Zuffa's. That doesn't mean they have to let him hold his status as the title holder though, the promotion does get to decide that.

| He's earned jack shit Silva's being a diva and his ego is getting out of control. Anderson is not injured and he's within a cunt hair of landing a super fight but now suddenly he wants time off, ridiculous, if Silva wants to delude himself into thinking he's a movie star then fine retire. |

He is being who he wants to be. I don't personally like the guy and I wouldn't like it if he takes a leave. But I respect him for doing what he wants to do.

| You just don't understand.
His time is his, he owns it. Do you get that?
He has chosen to fight and been so successful at it he has earned enough money to continue on at what ever pace he chooses to do so. Do you understand that?
He is not a slave to the promotion or you. Right?

He is not a slave to the promotion or you. Right? If he's not interested in being a fighter he should retire. |

His efforts help make them, his blood, his sweat, it was his body put on the line. The UFC is lucky to have Anderson Silva. IMO he doesn't owe them a damn thing.

| Why should they be lucky when Silva isn't even their biggest draw ? Without the UFC do you really think he'd be as big of a star as he is right now ? |

| I just hope I am right and Silva is just posturing for more money. A sabbatical right now would be a horrible idea. |

| Yeah this is not a Cung Le situation where u say "man u r wasting precious MMA years to go make a stupid movie." Silva unlike Le has already established his legacy. If he is not GOAT he is top 3 no question.
Now both guys are free to do what they want, I agree with that as well, but we as fans can critique those actions. But I think Silva should be able to do what he wants without criticism. Le's MMA career is shrouded in what if's and is thus open to critque for not fullfilling potential. Silva is in pure gravy stage of a brilliant career.

| I happen to agree with Ali. Anderson is the biggest prima donna in combat sports not named pretty boy Floyd. It's funny because over a year ago I said the exact same thing when he was refusing to fight Sonnon and I was crucified by Ali and other posters for saying it.
The biggest problem I have with Anderson is his reasoning for not fighting Weidman. He says he isn't a big name? Kind of hypocritical considering not a lot of people even knew his name when Rich gave him a shot at the belt when he didn't have too.

| Yup it's funny because I am a big Silva fan and will usually defend him but this whole sabbatical nonsense just makes my blood boil. You've got the Weidman vs. Boetsch, Bisping vs. Belfort and Belcher vs. Okami winners out there along with the big money fights with GSP and Bones and now suddenly he wants a sabbatical |

| Well I'd prefer he keep fighting, but I have no right to demand it of him or anyone else, nor does Zuffa. Anderson provides the service, they compensate him for it to their profit, and great profit at that. | |
