Jose Aldo vs. Frankie Edgar confirmed for UFC 156 on February 2nd

Frankie Edgar will be getting his shot at the UFC featherweight title after all. On UFC Tonight, MMA Fighting's Ariel Helwani confirmed that Edgar will be facing off with champion Jose Aldo, but it won't be taking place in Brazil as rumored. It will be in Las Vegas. Here's his tweet:

As just reported on @ufctonight, @frankieedgar will meet Jose Aldo at UFC 156 on 2/2 in Las Vegas. That's 156, not 157.

So there will still be an event in Brazil on January 19th apparently, but it won't be a numbered event. Aldo (21-1) has successfully defended his title three times in the UFC so far, most recently defeating Chad Mendes last January at UFC 142. A series of injuries has kept him from defending the title in the meantime. Edgar (14-3-1), a former UFC lightweight champion, dropped his belt to Ben Henderson at UFC 144 and lost a narrow rematch at UFC 150 in August. He finally decided to drop to featherweight, and was supposed to face Aldo at UFC 153, but they'll throw down February 2nd in Vegas again.

Dana White has confirmed the bout, and says the title is obviously on the line.
