http://mmajunkie.com/news/31340/finalists-announced-for-2012-world-mma-awards-rousey-earns-record-four-nominations.mmaThe finalists have been announced for the 2012 World MMA Awards, and Strikeforce women's bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey picked up a record four nominations.
Fighters Only, which coordinates the annual awards, today announced the finalists in 21 fan-voted categories.
Rousey is one of five fighters nominated for the prestigious Charles "Mask" Lewis Fighter of the Year award with Daniel Cormier, Nate Diaz, Benson Henderson and Jones Jones.
In addition to those categories, the 2012 World MMA Awards includes a Lifetime Achievement Award (which is voted upon by a panel of industry experts). Also new this year, a Fans' Highlight Reel Moment of the Year Award will be voted upon by fans to recognize the best MMA moment inside or outside the cage.
Voting is underway at
www.worldmmaawards.com. It recognized achievements from Sept. 1, 2011, to Aug. 31, 2012.
"The last year has absolutely flown by but not without giving us 12 months' worth of highlight-reel action, record-breaking achievements and emotional farewells," Rob Hewitt, president and CEO of Fighters Only, stated. "We are back to celebrate them all in what will be yet another star-studded night of glamor and entertainment which will surpass everything we have ever done to date."
A date and Las Vegas venue for the awards ceremony will be announced in the coming weeks.
MMAjunkie.com earned a nomination in the Media Source of the Year category. Additionally, staff writers John Morgan and Ben Fowlkes are nominees in the MMA Journalist of the Year division.
