| how does that slip through with a 5 second delay? And then cutting right to commercial? Who the heck is manning the switchboard over there? Chock it up to shock? Stunned at the moment?
Im not into videos of people who get smashed up, and I'd prob be pretty upset if I saw someone shoot themselves in the head.

| This kind of thing is bound to happen when we get live footage of car chases and whatnot. You don't know how people are going to react in those situations. Shit gets crazy and there are all kinds of unknown variables at work. | |

Still 5 second delay. Im thinking because it's a very rare occurence, even with all the live footage, that there was no protocal. Guy was on his own to make a decision and he decided to roll with it. There was 9/11? And I think keeping that live was a legit call, because that was such a big story, with such ramifications. But in a small isolated instance, without the ramifications I think u have to cut. I think being on the spot, and having to weigh all these different options on the spot, the philosphical debate of it all, following a car chase, all pumped up, and seemingly having the conclusion right there, guy just made a call. Not so clear cut I guess. Or at least I have to allow that it was a more difficult decision from where he sat, then from where I sat. Or maybe it was hard to tell what had actually happened?

| I've seen the video and it wasn't like he held the gun up for a while. This literally happened in a second. He gets out of the car, starts grabbing shit out of the car, then begins to walk and run in random patterns, falls down once or twice, and when his back is turned to the camera overhead he leans down and then falls dead. Even with a five second delay it's hard to really tell what happened at the very end to make a call one way or another, and the guy doing commentary even told them "get off it" over and over and over but the damage was done. From the distance of the camera you couldn't even tell he had a gun in his hand when he started running around. This also isn't the first time someone has committed suicide on live news camera before. There were the victims of the 9/11 attacks jumping out of windows, Daniel Victor Jones on the LA Freeway, Michael Marin in the courtroom, El Malevo Ferreyra, Budd Dwyer, Abdul Arian, (and while it didn't happen live on the news I don't believe) the Jonestown Massacre aftermath has been filmed several times by newscrews and other media sources.
The problem with these things is that they often escalate very quickly from "man this is bad" to "fuck, cut the video off now!" and more often than not the shock of what you just saw doesn't exactly set in until after the 5 second window has closed.

It truly was. All you see is his back turned and then he falls into the grass, at which point they cut the video feed to the guy in the station saying "get off it" over and over before shaking his head.
