World Series of Fighting debuts in Nov, NBC deal in works

The World Series of Fighting, the newest promotion set to land in Las Vegas, has requested the date of Nov 3 at Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino for their debut show.

According to the Nevada State Athletic Commission, the upstart organization has requested that date and location for their first show.

The Planet Hollywood arena is set to hold upwards of 6,000 people for a live MMA show, and the World Series of Fighting stated there will be 10+ bouts on the first card.

In addition to the information about the first show debuting on Nov. 3, the World Series of Fighting appears close to announcing a television deal that will land them on the NBC Sports Network.

The first World Series of Fighting card is expected to feature several former UFC and Strikeforce competitors including Roger Huerta, Joey Villasenor and John Gunderson.

NBC? Thus more free fights? Sweet.

Alot of the names are dumb. Even Ultimate Fighting Championship isn't that good of a name.

I wonder who all will be on the card and if they are gonna have a tournament of some kind?

Looks like they might use the Bellator model, or atleast they are using it to get started. I wonder if they would stick with the tourneys or move on to the UFC style match making.

With a name like world series, and plans for a tourney, I'd assume Tourney's are part of the long term plan.

Seems like his fighters will have a home if they don't stay where they are now.

I bet their training partners will also get some looks.

They just signed Miguel Torres for the first show, supposed to be a 3 fight deal.

Alot of good fights for Torres outside of Zuffa. Glad they signed him.

I want every mma org to do well but when they signed Torres they really got my support, I've always been a huge fan of his. I hope he makes the ufc regret cutting him

Yeah it would be sweet if this card got big numbers with him as the headliner. Gotta love Torres.

So soon we will have WSF on NBC and BFC on SPIKE. Maybe at the end of 2013 we can have some Champion vs Champion matchups?

Looks like it will be Burkman vs Gerald Harris

Also looks like they are adding Bobby Lashley to the card against TBA.

Some familiar names will call the action for the debut World Series of Fighting event.

Company officials confirmed with MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) that MMA legend Bas Rutten, veteran combat-sports broadcaster Michael Schiavello, and Olympic gold medalist/pro wrestler Kurt Angle have been selected for the broadcast team.

WSOF 1 takes place Nov. 3 and airs live on NBC Sports Network.

The event, which takes place at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, features former WEC champion and recent UFC competitor Miguel Torres in the headliner against an undetermined opponent. Big-show vets Josh Burkman, Gerald Harris, Bobby Lashley, Gesias "JZ" Cavalcante, John Gunderson and others have already been announced for the still-developing card.

WSOF, an upstart organization owned by advertising and marketing mogul Sig Rogich and run by kickboxing/MMA vet Ray Sefo, has signed a one-year deal with NBC Sports Network, which previously was named Versus. Officials said they plan to air eight to 10 WSOF shows on the cable station, which also previously aired WEC and UFC events before its name change.

Rutten, a former UFC champ and current host of AXS TV's "Inside MMA," has broadcast for many organizations, including PRIDE and DREAM.

Schiavello, meanwhile, travels across the globe to call fights for organizations such as XFC, MFC, DREAM, K-1, KOTC, BAMMA and others. He also previously hosted "The Voice Versus," an interview-driven show on AXS TV.

Angle, perhaps best known for his pro-wrestling and acting careers, had long hinted at a possible move to MMA, but the Olympic gold medalist never made a debut. However, UFC President Dana White admitted he offered Angle a spot on "The Ultimate Fighter 10" in 2010, though he couldn't get medical clearance.

After a two-fight skid in Strikeforce, Lyle Beerbohm has gone on a 4-0 run in 2012 that now has him a deal with the World Series of Fighting.

Beerbohm (19-2) has signed a multi-fight deal with the new promotion and is expected to have his first bout announced soon. Beerbohm's management team recently announced the signing.

World Series of Fighting has a headliner for its debut event.

A heavyweight bout between Andrei Arlovski (17-9) and Devin Cole (20-9-1) will serve as the main event of WSOF 1, officials today announced.

WSOF 1 takes place Nov. 3 at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas. The event's main card airs live on NBC Sports Network, formerly known as Versus.

"We are thrilled to welcome both Andrei and Devin to the World Series of Fighting roster and to have them headline our first live event," World Series of Fighting President Ray Sefo stated.

Arlovski, a former UFC champion who's also competed for Strikeforce and EliteXC, fights for the first time since a no-contest with Tim Sylvia at ONE FC 5. There, at the Aug. 31 event, the Belarusian tagged Sylvia with an illegal soccer kick, and the fight (the fourth between the two fighters) ended in a no-contest. Prior to the bout, Arlovski ended a four-fight skid with back-to-back knockout wins over Ray Lopez and Travis Fulton.

Cole, meanwhile, fights for the first time in neatly a year. Most recently, he competed for Strikeforce, where he posted back-to-back decision wins over Shawn Jordan and Gabriel Salinas-Jones (which followed a promotional-debut loss to Daniel Cormier). The former IFL fighter and collegiate wrestler was one of the few Strikeforce fighters not folded into the UFC. He nearly got a late-replacement opportunity against Travis Browne at UFC on FOX 4, but he said past legal problems held up a deal despite the fact he said he regularly passes background checks that allow him to work with school children.

I agree, though AJ wil be a different beast for him to fight. At HW he has fought generally slower guys that I've seen. But it is good he ic coming back down to 205 at least.

Yeah I think DJ is better off fighting at LHW anyways. If he ever makes it over to the UFC that is the weight he would more then likely compete at. I remember when he won the CWFC HW title he talked about wanting to hold the LHW title as well. I think he has a great chance to win this fight.
