| I thought this decision was on par with Frankie vs BJ 1 and close to Machida vs Shogun 1. They are all pretty equal in my mind. Close fights, but I think the judges got it wrong. | |

interesting comparisons. bendo definitely took round one and edgar definitely took round 2 but fuck knows about rounds 3-5, i could see an argument for 49-46 edgar, 49-46 bendo or anything inbetween. edgar just didn't do enough as the challenger to nick those rounds where it was difficult to seperate them imo.

edgar just didn't do enough as the challenger to nick those rounds where it was difficult to seperate them imo. I can't imagine anyone scoring the fight that way. I don't see that at all. Personally I wanted to score the fight for Bendo. I just can't stand watching Frankie fight, he frustrates me more then he does his opponents. But even though the rounds were close, I have 3 rounds that I don't think can be given to Bendo. Those 3 rounds are 2,3 and 4. IMO round 3 is as 10-10 as they come. I can't remember any round that I have ever seen that I think should be scored 10-10 more then that one. If I really try to lean Bendo, I can see it as a draw. But if I'm just scoring it like I see it. I give it to Frankie.

| I guess the fact that I don't think Frankie deserved to have that rematch in the first place, kind of makes me feel less sorry for him. But every major web site that scores these fights saw it for Frankie. IMO this fight was closer then the first one. I thought Bendo won by a wider margin in fight #1 then Frankie did in fight #2. But I am glad I don't have to see Frankie in another title fight. I can't stand watching his fights. So frustrating, so annoying, not what I wanna watch. | |

Same here, Frankie's a nice guy but his style of just fighting for points is annoying. |

| Has anyone found a single MMA site that scored the fight for Bendo? Just curious, because I have failed to find one. | |

| An interesting note:
The judge who scored the bout 49-46 for Edgar this time, Tony Weeks, has been the dissenting judge in some decisions in which we heard a score and went "WTF?". Namely:
UFC115: he scores Evan Dunham vs Tyson Griffin 29-28 for Griffin WEC 44: he scores Rob McCullough vs Karen Darabedyan 30-27 McCullough TUF2 Finale: he scores Rashad Evans vs Brad Imes 29-28 Imes
However we're seeing scores all over the place on this fight, just like we did last time Henderson and Edgar fought. Everything from 48-47 Henderson to 49-46 Edgar and everything inbetween.
I'm with OU here in that I'm tired of seeing Edgar play hummingbird and try to point fight his way to decision after decision when he could sit down on a few punches and see what happens if he hits someone flush with a power shot. I'll give him credit this time around for trying to choke Bendo out twice(even though it's a fools errand and just a waste of time by now) but come on, man. Don't say your going to leave no doubt in anyone's mind and then do the same shit you did your whole career and point grub.
Guys who fight for points have to be far and away better on fight night to keep winning because generally the guy who isn't putting anything on his punches will lose close decisions if he isn't out-landing his opponent by a wide enough margin(think Nick Diaz back in the day, Jon Fitch, Jake Shields, Miguel Torres when he had the belt, Dominick Cruz). If you're going to go for points, you have to do it by a clear and dominant margin.

| Subject: AMADI: Judges Didn't Screw Frankie Edgar at UFC 150, Frankie Screwed Frankie Tue Aug 14, 2012 9:13 pm | |

I'm a staunch believer in the idea that there can be close fights with clear winners, but we didn't really get that out of the UFC 150 main event on Saturday night. Benson Henderson and Frankie Edgar contested the UFC Lightweight Championship in a close five round affair that saw Henderson retain his championship. The first round definitely went to Benson Henderson, while the second round definitely went to Frankie Edgar; every round beyond that was pretty much a tossup.
I personally had Edgar winning four out of the five rounds, but that doesn't really get across how close the fight was. FightMetric scored it a draw using the ten-point must system, and though according to them Edgar was able to land more significant strikes in four of the five rounds, he was only able to do so by three or four strikes each round at the most.
Almost everyone who watched the fight seemed to have scored it in favor of the challenger, and like I said, I'm one of them. However, the judges did not screw Frankie Edgar last night; Frankie Edgar screwed Frankie Edgar.
The phrase "don't leave it in the hands of the judges" is trite and cliché, and in no way addresses how difficult it is to finish world class competition. However, there is something to be said for at least going into championship fights with that mentality.
Edgar dropped the UFC Lightweight Title to Henderson in February of this year in a great, action-packed fight. There were some that felt Edgar edged Henderson the first time out, but generally most seemed to agree that Henderson punched harder, kicked harder, and won the fight based on damage.
If Edgar thought he was wronged by the judges in the first fight, there was no way of telling that by the way he approached the rematch. It's highly uncharacteristic of title challengers to stay on the outside, narrowly outstrike the champion by a margin of two or three strikes and just hope to have rounds scored in their favor; mostly because that hardly ever works.
UFC commentator Joe Rogan really sized up the fight perfectly when he said there was so little that was happening in some of the rounds that one big strike or one good flurry could decide the winner. That's obviously the result of a well matched, tactical fight, but it's also a risky way to try to pick up a world championship.
MMA judging is most certainly atrocious and could very well be the worst problem in all of sports, but Frankie Edgar's approach guaranteed that the judges would get yet another closely contested 25 minute fight to decide. Edgar has now fought Benson Henderson twice and lost twice. If he or anyone else is wondering why that is, "The Answer" has only himself to blame.
