Evolution is the least understood theory I've ever seen. That and the Big Bang.
Humans and monkeys last common ancestor lived about 37 million years ago they think.

he looks very monkey like, but is not a modern monkey.
I was guilty of this myself. It is a common, almost automatic misunderstanding that humans did not evolve from monkeys, but technically, we did. New world monkeys split off from the old world line 40 million years ago, but old world monkeys and apes don't split off from eachother until about 27 million years ago. Meaning if the animals that were basal to new world and old world monkeys were monkeys, apes also evolved from monkeys, and by definition, so did we. The monkeys in Africa, genetically, are closer to humans than they are to the monkeys in South America. Monkeys, are a step in our past in the same way fish and reptiles are. | |
