June 16 on NBC Sports Network "Fight Night"
Tomasz Adamek (45-2, 28 KO) and Eddie Chambers (36-2, 18 KO) were always considered “smaller” heavyweights and now they will have chance to settle some scores on June 16, when they headline the fourth edition of the successful “Fight Night” NBC Sports Network series. “I signed the contract to fight Eddie and I hope that all the fans watching TV and seeing us live in Newark will get their money’s worth,” said Adamek in an exclusive Fightnews interview.
Eddie Chambers and Kevin Johnson were frontrunners to fight against you on June 16 – are you happy with the “Fast Eddie” choice?
Tomasz Adamek: For me the most important part of the fight is the question how the fight will look in the eyes of fans of boxing. Everybody who knows my career since I got my first light heavyweight title in 2005 knows that I will always deliver an entertaining bout. Kevin and Eddie are both great fighters, but Chambers wants to mix it up little bit more, prefers a more open style and Johnson is more defensively oriented. Just my opinion. And one more fact – I never said “no” to any opponent, although I know that styles make fights and sometimes you just cannot look good – even when you are winning the fight.
Eddie was watching in person at your last fight in Brooklyn, the entertaining battle against Nagy Aguilera, saying that fighting you will be a “people’s choice” fight with two boxers with fast hands, who are not afraid to exchange some punches. Did you speak with Chambers after Aguilera fight?
No, I knew he was there, but we didn’t speak. I hope that he will do on June 16 what he is preaching today. Looking forward to it.
Did you have chance watch Chambers’ fights?
I like to see some of my potential rivals fighting, so, yes I did see a couple of them. Against Wladimir Klitschko, Alexander Povetkin, and against my former sparring partner Derrick Rossy. I will not make any comparisons and predict the way Eddie will be fighting against me, because it makes no sense whatsoever. First of all fighters are in better or worse dispositions on certain days, they fight differently because the guy in front of them just dictates what’s going on. I will know more about Chambers in couple of months, after my training camp with Roger Bloodworth On paper, me versus Chambers sounds like fight for the fans, entertaining, with lots of punches. Just like I said before – I will do my part.
After having a seven month break after the WBC heavyweight title fight against Vitaliy Klitschko, you will step into ring twice in a three month span.
There’s no time to waste. I got my rest after Vitali and I like to fight at least three times a year. This is when I feel the best. Just wait and see.
