| What a shitty performance by someone who was fighting for the title and had 185ers scared shitless not long ago. And it's not just the lack of preparation he showed, it's his blatant refusal to use his bjj. It's like he's turned his back on what got him to where he is, everytime dude took him down he just used his grappling to get back up(with ease even tho he was tired) and continue a fight on the feet that he could have ended right then and there. I guarentee that he could've subbed that guy but CHOSE not too. He turned his back on his own style, I just hope whoever got to him stays the hell away from paulharris | |

| He couldn't have taken Weidman down anyway and thought he could win the standup. He just used his grappling to dominate Santiago in his last fight
At 34 he should abandon the striking. Its never going to be good

While I love a good tinfoil hat theory, I doubt Maia was in a big hurry to give up the SON bonuses he was winning everytime out

| Yeah I think he needs to focus more on his bread and butter and less about being a well rounded fighter. | |

| Weidman almost had a darce on him at the end of one of the rounds. Someone just posted the Weidman vs. Galvao ADCC match on youtube. I dont think Maia could have submitted Weidman, especially in mma with punches being thrown from top. | |

Actually Marquardt stole his soul. http://www.bloodyelbow.com/2012/1/30/2756884/ufc-on-fox-2-demian-maia-loses-his-way-and-his-fight - Quote :
- The path that lead the Brazilian to abandon his greatest strength can be
traced back to his loss to former UFC fighter Nate Marquardt. The fight ended after just twenty-one seconds with an epic counter right hand KO that punished Maia for throwing a lazy leg kick. It was a devastating defeat for Maia, who was gaining serious momentum towards a title shot at the time. The impact of this loss was serious for Maia, but many also saw it as an indictment of his grappling focused approach.

The devastating effect that training striking almost exclusively for the last two years now while his ground skills have deteriorated in the process. Yeah. Same thing happened top Kos and as soon and he went back to wrestling he got a title shot with big wins over Rumble and Daley.

Weidman was gassed out laying in his guard with his head on Maia's belly just begging to be attacked acouple times and Maia just used a butterfly hook to standup. He didn't have to take him down

Maia is fully able to sub a guy that has done well at ADCC before.
