I think they should drop the numbers all together because eventually it's going to start sounding stupid. They should have stopped at 100. They should only number it when it's an actual milestone. I'm guessing this is a different thread all together.

I'm just saying if it's Machida vs. Rampage it should be UFC: Machida vs. Rampage

Dana was saying way back in 2008 that he wants to get rid of the numbers but it's hard to do because all the media and fans number them. Once it gets to 176 or something, it's gonna start sounding stupid.

It will sound stupid but the only other thing would be like you said the names of the fighters. It was terrible when they had corny nicknames for them like "Meltdown"

I agree with the milestone idea...100, 200...
Name the events after the fighter, main event, maybe nicknames? " UFC RAMPAGE VS. DRAGON" ???

They can be, just make sure it's a solid event, with the merger, events should always be solid from here on out.

UFC number, then a title for the event or the names of the headliners. This is how it's always been done. Always will be.
