http://mmajunkie.com/news/26346/mtv-announces-amateur-mma-reality-series-caged-debuts-jan-9.mmaIf teen moms, Jersey Shore regulars, and Beavis and Butt-head are fair game, why not amateur cage fighters?
MTV apparently thought the same, and the cable station recently
announced plans for a new documentary series about amateur MMA fighters
titled "Cage."
The show, which focuses on the Louisiana amateur-MMA scene, debuts Jan. 9
on the cable station at 10 p.m. ET/PT. International MTV channel will
begin airing the series in May.
The show features a handful of fighters in small-town Louisiana who try
to figure out life after high school. However, according to MTV
officials, they all share a passion for MMA.
The series follows their lives in and out of the cage. As is typical
with such programs, a small mix of personalities gets camera time,
including the rich kid whose first love died in an accident, the college
grad who's handling life with his new girlfriend/fighter/nursing school
student and son, and a fighter hoping to make his parents proud as a
pro competitor.
The Louisiana MMA scene garnered some attention recently with the
well-received "Fightville" documentary, which featured a pre-UFC Dustin
Poirier and veteran Tim Credeur, among others.
MTV is available in approximately 500 million households worldwide, including 100 million in the U.S.
"Caged" is executive produced by Joke Fincioen and Biagio Messina of
Joke Productions. Dave Sirulnick and Amy Bailey are executive producers
for MTV. The series is from MTV's award-winning News and Docs
department.
